Ivi - Pronounciation?

How would you pronounce Ivi?

Ivy or Evie? Or differently?

All i can see from that is I.V, not a spelling i would use as it would mean she could be called Drip by children at school.

@Namedrama87 I think like others I would pronounce it Ivy but if you corrected me to Evie, I would get it right every time after that. I'm not British though, I'm Irish

I think if you are Greek and love the name go for it. I have lots of Irish family living in various parts of the UK and they have gone for Irish names. People can say them and mostly try get it right

I would pronounce it however way the parents or child told me it was pronounced. It's a name from you heritage OP, no reason to use a different name or an English spelling.

Anyone important in your child's life will pronounce it correctly. Anyone else can be told how to pronounce it.

My children have Welsh names, some English people have to be told how to pronounce them, it"s fine. There are children in school with them with Irish names that were unfamiliar before we met them. We were told how to pronounce the names and that's fine too.

Some posters seem to think that English names are "correct" and everything else is strange. Not true at all. Good luck OP.

I'd pronounce the first syllable to rhyme with "sieve" and the second syllable like the word "if" but without the eff sound. In other words a bit of a mess.

Alternatively I'd pronounce it 56, because written down it just looks like Roman numerals.

Personally I like non British names, as they are generally very boring, overused and for old people. I think though choosing a name similar to Ivy, which is a popular name is bound to cause confusion

Ivy is a good name - don't try to make in unique - it will just look odd.

You DD will have a life time of explaining and spelling out her name

Ivy was my nanna's name and she hated it, got called clinging ivy and climbing ivy etc she changed to her middle name of Jane as soon as she was old enough but her mother and older sister still insisted on calling her a name she hated.
