This is somewhat inspired by the resurrected prettiest girls name you know thread.

I wondered when you went to school what was the girl with the name you likes the most called?

I didnt grow up in the UK but for me her name was Karina. I thought her name was so pretty and unusual (it's a fairly normalish name for my generation in Denmark think top 50-100) but oh I had name.envy. grew out of it and Karina never even entered the consideration for my own children.😁

I knew a trio of sisters and one was called Georgia (it was VERY different then) and I loved it!

I went to playground and then school with a girl called Zoe. She had lovely long, dark, thick hair, that I so admired compared to my shortish, very fine blonde hair.

My teen's close friend is named Karenza, so there appears to be more than one.

Yep there are lots in Cornwall its quite common, not so many with a brother with a boring name though.

At primary school it was Georgina. At secondary it was Rachel. I knew several and they were all clever, confident and pretty.

Sonia. Was at school in the 80s and stood out amongst the Cathys, Rachels, Helens, Claires, Sarahs, Louises. She also had 2 sisters whose names have been frequently mentioned on here but I won't repeat them for anonymity.

Lucy

Was such a popular name in the late 80s early 90s - now I only hear of labradors being called Lucy (although labradors are really awesome hahahahaha). I knew a Lucy labrador who just ate everything.

Did she grow up in Plymouth and the brother is younger than her? Sounds like my husbands friend....

Karenza.

Everyone else was called Laura, Sarah, Lucy etc.

So this was completely out there and was a lovely name and she was a lovely girl.

Her brother had a very typical name of the time 😂🤷‍♀️

In among the Karen's, Traceys, Michelles, Sharons, Julies and me being one of those, I always envied Vivienne

That's nice, it being a family name. I really like Jeanie.

Jeanie-us hahahahaha

I am a Lucy and my beloved grandmother was Jean. She died 9 months ago and I want to give my own daughter Jean as a middle name after her, so she lives on.

That's nice, it being a family name. I really like Jeanie.

Bonnie.

DejaMooo · 14/02/2024 18:00

Freya - I'm not sure I like it so much anymore, but I loved it then... she was really pretty and cool, and the only girl with that name in the whole school. Probably influenced by the fact I have a very common name and was one of four in my year.

FindingMeno · 14/02/2024 17:50

Annette and Alexia.

AddictedToBooks · 14/02/2024 17:49

For me it was always Emma, then Emily and then it turned to Elizabeth.
One my babies was named Emily and another of my babies has the middle name Elizabeth.

There were a couple of Emma's in my school and they both seemed so beautiful and popular. Every Emily I've ever met has been so lovely and the same with the only Elizabeth I knew.

Jook · 14/02/2024 17:41

I went to school with a girl whose name I absolutely loved but have never been able to track down, probably because I can’t figure out the spelling.

It’s Irish and sounds like Fawn-ya. This was late 70s.

Marcipex · 14/02/2024 17:40

Elaine. She had enormous brown eyes and long straight golden hair.

She died when still in her teens :(

BinkyBeaufort · 14/02/2024 17:38

The prettiest name I remember from as far back as junior school in the 60s was Delari.
(Del-ARE-ree).
