This is somewhat inspired by the resurrected prettiest girls name you know thread.

I wondered when you went to school what was the girl with the name you likes the most called?

I didnt grow up in the UK but for me her name was Karina. I thought her name was so pretty and unusual (it's a fairly normalish name for my generation in Denmark think top 50-100) but oh I had name.envy. grew out of it and Karina never even entered the consideration for my own children.😁

Lois. This was in the early 80s when everyone else was a Wendy or a Tracey or a Julie or a Karen, so it was very unusual. I still think it's a classy and underrated name now.

Serena - she was a few years above and beautiful, I thought it was the loveliest name ever!

Anik
Ceri
Sasha

Xanthe. Never met another person with that name. I also loved the name Francesca, and the various shortenings of it.
I was at school with what seemed like dozens of Helen/Jane/Claire/Sarah, so these 2 names seemed really unusual in comparison.

Primary Danika
Secondary Naomi

mainly because they were so different to all the Natalies, Sarahs, Gemmas & Claires!

I was at school with a Tabitha. Very unusual in the 1970s, surrounded as she was by multiple girls called Jane, Joanne, Michelle or Claire.

PalmLady · 09/03/2024 13:44

Kendall.

I didn't consider it when naming my children.

Quinque · 09/03/2024 06:39

Sylvana. Her mother was Italian. I had huge name envy!

Plumchumm · 09/03/2024 06:22

Elisa, Jessica, Isabel, Katie (funny because I think it’s plain now)

Catriona - met three in my classes during the years 1969 - 71
Still love it, but now wonder how it should be pronounced.

First one said Cat-tri-oh-na
But second two said. Catri-onna
First one had a long 'o', second two had short 'o's
Wanted it for my only daughter, but was overruled. Still not sure how we would have pronounced it, but either way it's beautiful.

A girl came to my school from abroad and she was called Livia. I thought it was beautiful and still do

Astrid. I’ve always thought it sounds ethereal yet strong, and kind of artistic. I’ve yet to meet an Astrid who isn’t impossibly cool.

I knew a clementine which I thought quirky if not pretty. And a Virginia who was very posh indeed and wouldn't have it shortened to Ginny.

In school, Luisa. She was also an incredibly pretty older girl, which may have influenced me.

Uni - Katarczyna.

I always wanted to be called Alice, I still love the name but it was the name of one of ExHs family members so couldn't use it for DD.

Isobel - she had the most glorious dark brown curly hair.

There's an Isobel in my DDs class at school, spelt that way. She is the funniest, cheekiest but also loveliest girl. DD is slightly jealous of her name to, says it's "Lovely to have so many vowels in"

Girl in school year called Luella who was Portuguese. Still love the name.
