THe jolly hockey sticks Cordelia got me thinking......

I knew, growing up, a very posh Annabel, Amelia and Beatrice.

All names that could be used by anybody these days. Imogen is another one that was ouch posh when I was about 12.

So what is posh now? Clemency? Tuppence?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Constance - I always (bizarrely) loved that name as a child and have only ever met one person with it.

Never quite understood why someone would inflict Candida onto their child. May as well just stick a sign on her back saying 'yes I have the same name as that stuff that causes an itchy fanjo.'

If our baby's a boy we're calling him Sebastian. I always thought Olivia is a posh sounding name. (Maybe that's cos I went to school with an Olivia, and she was ultra-snooty)

We have met a rather posh Persephone, but when the children were reading each others name tags she was called Percy phone.

alibubbles · 30/03/2008 07:42

I know a Jaspar, Hugo , Freddie and Justin all quite 'posh'

cyteen · 29/03/2008 17:05

Aren't proper posh types e.g. those with buckets of cash often called things like Miffy and Titty and other things that would get someone with less social backing beaten to death in an alley?

My favourite nouveau posh name remains Paloma Boudicca...yep, there's a little P.B. running around Blackheath somewhere Another cracker I came across was Fedora - not just a type of hat!

MrsDanvers · 29/03/2008 15:14

Wasn't Chloe posh until it appeared as the no. 1 name for about 10 years running? Also, Rose was a bit posh for a while but is now dead common.

Quattrocento · 24/03/2008 20:58

Tarquin will always be posh because it is so ridiculous

I think that Octavia will always be posh. I don't think Emma is posh but other Austen names - Marianne for instance have some social cachet

skeletonbones · 24/03/2008 20:49

Pascal will alaways be posh as will Quentin

Kama - one of the regular bus drivers on our route is called Lawrence - he's not very posh (although he is a great guy!)

In Scotland "Bunt" is short for Elizabeth (can't see the connection, but there you go..)

Weeteeny · 24/03/2008 20:42

MaryAnnSmotheredinchocolate · 22/03/2008 20:45

I know of a posh Donna, and that's probably not considered to be a posh name
