Names that were posh but aren't now...

THe jolly hockey sticks Cordelia got me thinking......

I knew, growing up, a very posh Annabel, Amelia and Beatrice.

All names that could be used by anybody these days. Imogen is another one that was ouch posh when I was about 12.

So what is posh now? Clemency? Tuppence?

Mind you it wasn't Waitrose so they couldn't have been that posh, eh?

Jack and charlie are chavvy now at least here.Anabel is still posh i think so is henry and wilfred. Lots of posh Lucys when I was younger

OK here goes (just keep telling myself that I love my kids names no matter what other people think)

DD is Fiona Skye

(Skye or Sky I think I have heard on here being described as a bit chavy, and it was originally gonna b DDs first name)

DS is Dylan James

(I know Dylan is bit more common now but I originally chose it for DD if she was a boy, and still wanted to use it when DS came along)

Also if DS had ben a girl I would have chosen Megan Willow and would probably still use it if I ever have another DD

This thread is making me wonder if my kids names are posh or chavvy. I don't think they are in the top 20 but I chose them just because I liked them...........

& I think the definition of a posh boy's name is one that would get you beaten up if you went to a state school...

I know it's horribly pretentious but I think they're lovely names, Hopeoverexperience. I really liked Ariel for a girl (as in Sylvia Plath or The Tempest) but it is, unfortunately, also the name for a washing powder . I have DSs though, so it never came up.

Rupert is the quintessential posh boy's name.

Jessica used to be posh, i used to get gently teased for being a yuppie at school. I wonder how many kids from my class now have their own little Jessicas...

I really love Tobias, but not Toby...it's moot anyway as DP would never consider it for our kid, due to a friend of his who shares the name.

LOL at the Isabella chat on this thread - you have confirmed my worst fear.

I loved the names Isabella and Grace and always thought I would go for one of those ... but when I was pregnant i just couldn't believe how common it had become. Totally out of hand.

Yes I know plenty of Isabel's and Isabella's. Pretty name that we considered for DD but very popular just now in both variants.

Am struggling to see Marjorie/Marj as posh.

Eleanor used to be posh but is no longer and is becoming quite popular.

dominic and julian are the names of my cousins, i think they are very posh names. i personally dislike both (sorry to all the mums of either boys name!!! )
