Josh is not chavvy AT ALL a- thought you meant Jack at first....

Josh is a great name - we toyed with long before DSs were born but DH brother got there first.

Yes it is very common at the moment, but it is only obvious whilst he is at school iwth lots of other boys of the same age. It won't matter so much when DS is grown up because he will be mixing with people of all ages so there won't necessarily be dozens of Josh's around.

I have a J named boy - a Jacob. Apparently very popular in the US but we don't know any others here - agree J names are great.

I like the name Katie too but agree it would be nice to use Catherine. For some reason I prefer it with a C than a K. Don't know why though.

Theres nothing wrong with josh. Its a great name and has a lovely meaning. Then again my ds is a Josh. Sometimes think that i should have called him Joshua instead

It has become v popular, but that doesn't make it any less lovely.

I think Josh is a great name. The thing to remember, even if it is quite popular that there are LOT of children in the country, so even the common names are't all that common, if you see what I mean. Ds's school has 420 children, and I think there are only 2 Joshs - or maybe 3.

I think Kate's a nice name (I'm a Kate, so I'm biassed) but I don't specially like Kitty. With all these names, i do think it's a really good idea to call the child Catherine officially, then she can be Kate, Kitty, Kat,Kit Cathy, Cath - whatever suits her and she likes.

IMO it is a person themselves that are chavvy not their name.

I don't think there's anything wrong with a Josh but I know exactly what you mean about regreting a name. In fact I tried to start a thread about this a week or 2 ago - no replies!

Ds2(9) is also called a very common name and I am really upset that I didn't stand up for the name I wanted. His name was both dh and my second choice but the only one we agreed on so I always feel that poor ds2 got a 'that'll do' type name instead of an unusual lovely name as ds1 has. The more I hear other people use it the less I like it. It doesn't 'match' our surname or ds1's name.

I know it's ridiculous. We couldn't change it even if we tried.

When you were listing all the "J" names, I couldn't help but think about that Duggar family who have 17 kids all beginning with J

I think it is a nice name. And if you named him 8 years ago maybe you were the trendsetters.....

Joshua is nice, but vvv common at the mo. So is James/Jamie and Jack... we'll be onto K names soon. (BTW Katie is also vvv comon round here.- I mean popularcommon, not chavcommon.)

Btw I'm a Debbie - there are tonnes of us around. It's never bothered me!

I have a Josh, he is 5. I loved the name when I was pregnant but did worry about how popular it was. When he was born we called him Sebastion for 2 days and it didn't feel right - he was really a Josh!

I ove it and don't care what others think.

joshua was on my list when i was pg. it's a great name, timeless and biblical. i don't think the fact that it is common will affect him. just think back to when you were at school. how many Johns and Daniels and Christophers and Matthews were there? But they were all unique individuals and it never seemed to bother them, did it? If you think of pretty much all the most successful and famous men over the past 20 years they tend to have quite 'common' names which they make their own. Off the top of my head I'm thinking David Beckham, Jack Black, Johnny Depp etc...

Katie reminds me of Katie Price, but probably only because I don't know any other Katies.

I love Catherine and all variations. Caterina, Catriona, Katharina, Caitlin.

I like Kate. It was my grandmother's name and she was also called Kitty.

josh is a lovely name and so it kitty but would be more inclined to use it as a nickname rather than a full name - just my opinion though!
