Long name for Cuddy

We're expecting our second baby and I am really keen on Cuddy as a name, which is usually a nickname for Cuthbert. We live in Northumberland so it has connection to St Cuthbert. But my husband isn't keen on Cuthbert, but only likes Cuddy if it's a nickname for something else. Any suggestions for what the birth name could be if we shorten to Cuddy?

OP posts:

Cullen is the best (or least bad) option mentioned. Cullen Daniel, David, Dominic, maybe?

Go the whole hog and call him Cullen Skink?

Cuddlinton
Cudderific
Cuddstable
Cudnatious

Sounds like you’re naming a teddy bear not a human.

milkonesugar35 · 25/01/2024 12:37

Custard

EeesandWhizz · 25/01/2024 12:32

Cruddy

Mudflapflat · 25/01/2024 12:29

McGillicuddy.

WhenWereYouUnderMe · 25/01/2024 12:29

Cuddy?! Like, as in, horse?!

Shityshitybangbang · 25/01/2024 12:28

Think about it! You’re naming a child not an animal. I wish parents would think about these things

ginasevern · 25/01/2024 12:27

I think Cuthbert is actually a really strong and timeless name, especially as it has roots in your region. Cuddy is indeed the short version and I like that too. It makes a bloody change from Alfie, Archie, Charlie and Noah etc. There won't be thousands of others with the same name and a good, strong and individual name is very important.

Scautish · 25/01/2024 12:25

are you winding us up?

If you’re not, please don’t do this to the poor child. It’s a hideous name. So ugly and he’s going to be called cunty at school.

Georgyporky · 25/01/2024 12:22

Isn't cuddy the Geordie word for horse?

BoohooWoohoo · 25/01/2024 12:20

Cuthbert is the Aldi caterpillar cake.
If you really want Cuddy then I’d go for a different name then call him that at home. Personally I think of chewing the cud which isn’t very positive
Do you like similar names like Coby, Cody, Corey?

strawberryswizzler · 25/01/2024 12:17

CuddyandWhey
Custard
Cuddles
KidCudi

EverleighMay · 25/01/2024 12:16

Cud, then lengthen to Cuddy. Would give the lad something to chew on?

Sorry OP it's an awful name and even worse with a Geordie accent!

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 25/01/2024 12:16

I'm struggling with the Mn obsession of 'setting' nicknames. Surely a nickname is a name that arises organically because of behaviour/appearance/inability to pronounce etc?

You can call your child Cuddy regardless of their first name. My youngest daughter is called Libby, which bears absolutely NO relevance to her first name (but only by me and occasionally one of her sisters. The others use a more obvious short form of her name).

RaraRachael · 25/01/2024 12:15

Cuddy? LOL I hope you never live in my area as that's what we call a horse! 😅

CactusMactus · 25/01/2024 12:14

Cuddy? Really?

What cows eat..old cowy chewing the cuddy.

Differentstarts · 25/01/2024 12:12

I mean if you really must can you have cuddy as the middle name and then give him a normal first name so that you can call him cuddy but then when he's older he can choose which he prefers

Flatulence · 25/01/2024 12:11

Cuddy.
No.
Just no.

Mairzydotes · 25/01/2024 12:11

It makes me think of Cuddy's cave - another North East connection. So by that logic I'd suggest Cave as a name.

LakeTiticaca · 25/01/2024 12:07

What's with parents wanting to saddle their poor offspring with ridiculous names that will be a lifelong piss taking magnet?
What's wrong with Daniel or James, or even Henry or Charles?
Plenty of nice boys and girls names around!

Silvergreenblue · 25/01/2024 12:06

Reminds me of cruddy

sensationalsally · 25/01/2024 12:03

Cuddy is a horse. Cundy is a drain.

Needmorelego · 25/01/2024 11:49

It's not really a name.
It just sounds like something that would have evolved through time as a family name.
18 Year Old : "Why do you all call me Cuddy?"
Parents: "Oh when you were a toddler you always wanted cuddles but couldn't say it properly and constantly called out I want Cuddy"
I call my daughter Moo Moo.
It's not on her birth certificate and isn't short for anything unless you count "My Little Miss Moo Moo" 😂

TallulahBetty · 25/01/2024 11:44

Balonz?

Seriously, do not do this
