Jasper or August?

Hea1991 · 21/01/2024 19:04

After a very long and hard surrogacy journey, my DS Xander is finally getting a new little brother!
Only problem is we are struggling with a name. Xander was the only boys name we agreed on and still get lots of nice comments about it so want something that both ‘goes with it’ and is great in its own right.
Our shortlist at the moment is Jasper or August - which do you think goes better and open to any suggestions but we can’t have Otis, Otto or Magus.

Otis is great.

OP says they CANT have that.

LikeagoddamnVampire · 26/01/2024 22:12

August is, to me, a girls name. Only ever met summer born girls with that name. (U.K.)

Jasper is ok but a bit ... Etonian. Floppy haired cricket player with a bosomy nanny.

I do like the suggestion of Hector to go with Xander.

telestrations · 26/01/2024 20:56

Jasper

Though I quite like Gus

bridgetreilly · 26/01/2024 20:42

Jasper.

Aglassaday · 26/01/2024 17:42

Hector also…?

Spike?

I don't think Xander would want to be friends with Spike 😂

Ellmau · 23/01/2024 07:42

Jasper is lovely.

CadyEastman · 22/01/2024 19:19

I think if he'll be born on February I'd go with Jasper or maybe Josiah?

pontipinemum · 22/01/2024 15:38

I prefer Jasper. Others:

Atlas
Silas

I love the name August but I think Jasper goes better

Have you considered

Felix
Avery
Cosmo
Bhodi

Sadly we already have a Felix in the family otherwise that would've been top of my list as I think it goes so well. There’s something about Cosmo I love but we have a double barrelled surname that begins with K so I’m wondering if it might be a bit much?

Jasper sounds like a cat or dog name to me. I’m not a fan. August is a girl’s name, surely.

Scottyme · 22/01/2024 07:51

Jasper as with August depends how you'd rather it pronounced. August as in the month or (as it is to me anyway) the French way.

I would pronounce it the same way as the month. Would possible consider spelling with an ‘e’ on the end though like Auguste Rodin as I like how I looks

Oakley and Jasper also used fairly frequently as dog names. As is Milo but it works quite well with Xander.

Whatever you go for you need to put yourself in the shoes of a 13year old boy & think will he feel like a twat when they are calling out the register or his mates are shouting to him on the pitch!

HumerousHumous · 22/01/2024 08:09

Yes, I wouldn't go for two X names. August is nice with a good shortening of Gus.

How about Oakley?

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 22/01/2024 08:05

Otis is great.

wasanneofcleves · 22/01/2024 08:04

@justanotherusername22 Casper is only a ghost if you're over 35!!

Op I wouldn't go for two X names...it's a bit affected. I like Jasper of your list but you've had some other lovely suggestions.

Congrats OP!
I love both and both are on my list but I think Jasper is my favourite!
Other suggestions:
Casper
Beau
Flynn
Huxley
Ozzy

Casper is a a ghost

August - actually thought that was a pretty girls name

Xavier is cool!

FayCarew · 22/01/2024 08:01

@Scottyme , you mean Août?

I think you mean 'like the adjective not the month'

Whataretheodds · 22/01/2024 07:52

Joco34 · 21/01/2024 19:17

My sons name is Xavier (pronounced Zay-vee-er). Its from the Basque region where my family have come from. Its a beautiful name and would certainly suit alongside Xander.

Is Zay-vee-er the Basque pronunciation?

Scottyme · 22/01/2024 07:51

Kangaboo · 22/01/2024 07:43

Congrats op.

I think Huxley sounds like a dog.

Similar to Dr Xander & Dr Chris how about Tris? Tristram?

Leonardo (Leo)
Reuben
Arlo
Ewan
Arron
Alex though may sound like AleXander if calling for them both!

Thank you! ❤Huxley is actually one that we both floated and then forgot about so maybe it should go back on the list!
