I love Nimue and Vivienne. Ninniane and Niniane are other alternates for the "lady of the lake" and Lenore is her mother.

I wanted to know what you think:

Nimue - nim-oo-ay, we would consider this, but not sure we're brave enough

Vivienne - we're considering this, emphasis on the last syllable

(Ninniane, Niniane - wouldn't consider this, but interesting)

(Lenore - I like it, but not enough to use)

Nimue is really nice, who cares if people initially pronounce it nee-mew, for most folk that would be a one-time event and then they would know that wasn’t right.

a lot of people on MN cannot cope with anything non-Anglo, but as a person with a non-Anglo name my experience is it doesn’t actually cause many (or any) problems.

Ninianne, Vivienne, Ninienne, I like much less. Vivienne because it’s everywhere any the other two are too frilly for my liking but it’s so personal.

Nimue...people will say Nee-myoo

Vivienne... people will say Vivian

Ninianne is nice

Lenore sounds like a fabric conditioner

I'm wondering if you're trying a bit too hard to be 'out there.'

Lenore IS a fabric conditioner

Vivienne is lovely but I don’t understand about the emphasis on the last syllable? Is this not how is pronounced? Vi-ve-en

Snowydaysfaraway · 20/01/2024 21:35

How about a name people including your dc can spell and pronounce?

ianshe · 20/01/2024 21:34

Nimue - AWFUL

Vivienne - lovely

Ninniane, Niniane - AWFUL. Would also make me wonder if you're Cardiff City fans (ninian park)

Lenore - I like it for a name and is actually on my list but sadly will always be linked to fabric softener so I'm unlikely to use.

Nimue - nim-ew
Vivienne - Viv-yen or Vivvy-enn
Ninniane, Niniane, - Ninny-Anne. Ninian Park
Lenore - Lenor fabric conditioner

We're you watching The Winter King by any chance, I saw it and I loved the name and character of Nimue but unfortunately I do think people will struggle with pronunciation.
Vivienne is definitely beautiful I'd go for that

Purplecatshopaholic · 20/01/2024 21:27

Vivienne is lovely. The rest will mean condemning your child to a lifetime of people mispronouncing and misspelling her name…

Onelife2024 · 20/01/2024 21:26

Vivienne is nice.

I’d never heard of Nimue but I actually really like it - as long as you don’t mind needing to spell it / explain pronunciation a lot. Nimi is a gorgeous nn too.
