Prefer aksel.

If you go with Tommy do Thomas as Tommy is a bit east end gangster e g. Tommy 'the hatchet' Malone

theduchessofspork · 21/01/2024 07:42

Thomas nn Tommy

Axel makes me think of cars / guns and Roses, but unless there’s a cultural reason at least spell it normally

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 20/01/2024 14:57

I'm biased because my eldest is Tom. Thomas on the birth cert, but he has never, ever once in his life been Tommy. Always was Tom (or sometimes Tomsk).

Tommy is a bit 'little boy'. You name a baby, but what you end up with is a man.

It's Axel in french, girls can be named Axelle which I think is cool but a little old fashioned.

I understand Aksel is a scandi spelling but in my mind it sounds like Akselllllllll with a long stress for some reason. Personally I would do Axel but I'm a huge guns and roses fan (Axl would be too literal).

Is it pronounced the way I've spelled it, at least? Or is it a completely different name?!? The child is definitely a boy and it's definitely pronounced a-cell. Stress on the cell!

Vettrianofan · 20/01/2024 06:41

Thomas nn Tommy. Not keen on Aksel. Good luck on choosing your baby name! Not long to go.

Lampzade · 20/01/2024 06:32

Agree with others. Thomas shortened to Tommy.
Tbh really don’t like Tommy or Aksel

I know a little Acel, which I think is the French version of Axel, but I like Axel too. Or Aksel.

Thomas on birth certificate and Tommy as a nn. I knew an adult Tommy once and it honestly made him sound babyish for want of a better word.

DancingOnMoonbeams · 20/01/2024 06:08

Thomas is one of my favourite names.

I don't like Aksel.

user1492757084 · 20/01/2024 04:30

If Aksel is the spelling in your country, then I choose Aksel.
.
Though all I see is Askel for some reason - rhymes with rascal!

I would use Axel if that is the spelling in the country of your child's birth.

Tommy is childish or rock n roll starish.

Thomas is handsome and my fave.

Daisybuttercup12345 · 20/01/2024 00:03

Tommy.

Axel is a nice name. Aksel is a strange name.

Why? Aksel is the spelling in a lot of other European countries 🤷🏻‍♀️

TheCurtainQueen · 19/01/2024 18:09

Axel is a nice name. Aksel is a strange name.

Dacadactyl · 19/01/2024 18:08

Thomas on BC, Tommy or Tom as nicknames.

Don't like Aksel at all.

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 19/01/2024 17:55

Tommy but short for Thomas not as the full name.

Oldermum84 · 19/01/2024 17:11

Axel.

Xiaoxiong · 19/01/2024 16:46

Aksel only if you don't mind people always asking how to spell it (or spelling it Axel) and where it's from. Which you may not mind at all!

Thomas is a wonderful name.

LunaLovegoodsLeftEyebrow · 19/01/2024 16:44

Tommy but Thomas on birth certificate

Dooglydog · 19/01/2024 16:41

I love Aksel, I have a bit of a soft spot for the Norwegian skier aksel lund svindal though 😂

tommy is awful though as an actual name, as a nickname fair enough but go with ideally Thomas, or maybe Tom.

Stackarack · 19/01/2024 16:26

Thomas which you can’t shorten to Tommy. Tommy is a bit babyish so think of high school, work, CV etc.

Janek · 19/01/2024 16:24

Onelife2024 · 19/01/2024 16:16

Ooh I like Aksel if it links to your heritage, it’s nice.

Thomas is a lovely name with Tommy as a nn.

I personally would choose Thomas nn Tommy but I don’t have Scandi heritage

MrsTerryPratchett · 19/01/2024 16:02

Aksel is Scandi and is nicer than Axel but he will be correcting the spelling (and Axel is a bit of a naughty boy name).

Thomas is nice and gives the option of Tommy without limiting him to it.

TheBirdintheCave · 19/01/2024 15:59

Love Aksel. One of my favourite Scandinavian names :)

LadyDanburysHat · 19/01/2024 15:58

I don't really like either. Is Aksel from another country/culture?
