I like it OP

I know someone that called their daughter Vada, as in My Girl. They changed the spelling to Vayda after a few weeks because it was being mis pronounced.

I always say call your child what you want to. There will always be someone that doesn't like it.

Spicybeanburger · 17/01/2024 23:17

I know a little Indian girl called vada. I think it's a nice name, but it is Indian. Just so you are aware.

LexRider · 17/01/2024 23:05

There are lots of names in the world that won’t get your kid mocked for her entire life.

”Vader” is not one of them.

And Star Wars is more popular than it was, not less. I don’t know any 8 year old boys who haven’t seen it, most can quote whole sections from it.

Bernadinetta · 17/01/2024 23:03

Yes as others have stated, it’s Vada in My Girl.

How about Ada, Ava, Alaia, Aveyah, Nevaeh, Vita, Vida, Ida, Ivy, Vivi?

BayCityCoaster · 17/01/2024 23:01

It’s odd to me that you would love the name so much that you’re considering giving it to your DD, and not only not know how it’s spelt, but not even google it, to find out!

A 2-second google reveals it’s Vada.

Sorry - I don’t mean to be mean, it’s just so weird to me!

It’s a nice name. Spelt that way won’t necessarily result in the Star Wars jibes.

All2Well · 17/01/2024 23:00

I know a Veda pronounced Vay-da.

Vader would be a stupid name but there's nothing at all wrong with Vada or Veda. There's no r in either.

I'm a Star Wars fan and have never made the link between the Vada you mean and Darth Vader. I think you're in the minority thinking this way.

ThursdayTomorrow · 17/01/2024 22:59

To me the name suggests either Darth Vader (Star wars is still HUGE) or Vileda Supermop.

bedknobsandstickbrooms · 17/01/2024 22:56

MooseBreath · 17/01/2024 21:49

With a rhotic accent, Vada is pronounced entirely differently to Vader. If your accent would read Vada as "Vader", I would not use it.

Yes, I'm Scottish and always loved the name Vada from My Girl.

Pronounced Vay-da

Darth Vader pronounced Vay-der

If they sound the same in your accent, I wouldn't recommend it, OP.

It means father??? Mind blown!!!

I’m not even a fan and my mind was blown!!

xyz111 · 17/01/2024 22:40

PuttingDownRoots · 17/01/2024 20:02

Its Vada apparently. Means knowledgeable.
Vader means father.

Filamumof9 · 17/01/2024 22:31

semperidem, it is only 1 syllable difference Vader or Vater as it is in German. but I noticed that often German and Dutch are being used losely indeed.

GoodVibesHere · 17/01/2024 22:27

Get a grip woman, you can't call the poor girl Vader.

SemperIdem · 17/01/2024 22:15

Filamumof9 · 17/01/2024 20:54

In Dutch it means Father, so would more likely be a masculine name instead of feminine.

It has annoyed me for years that in Pitch Perfect Anna Kendrick’s character states that Vader is German for father! Such lazy writing!

MaloneMeadow · 17/01/2024 22:12

Absolutely awful, why would you do that to a child. I’m not even a Star Wars fan, I’ve never watched it in my life and still my first thought was Darth Vader

Hope she isn't born on 04/05...

😂😂🤣 best comment! But maybe the force would have to be with her having a name like that!

Blueberry911 · 17/01/2024 20:41

I love the name Vada but there is always that instant Star Wars connection :(

Thehamsterthatcametotea · 17/01/2024 20:29

I love Star Wars but immediately thought My girl rather than Star Wars. Do it!

GothConversionTherapy · 17/01/2024 20:27

Well her name wasn't Vader, so there's that.

I like Vida, it's used in Serbia not sure if it has associations with other countries.

Frederica145 · 17/01/2024 20:26

Sorry, but no, please don't. Vader = Darth Vader and will do for a very long time.
Why not -
Vera
Vivian
Valerie
Vida
Vala
Verity

ImaginaryLobster · 17/01/2024 20:23

it's such a shame its linked so hard to Darth Vader so think it would be unfair to use
