Nickname Perci. For a girl, what do you think?

It's awful

Tinytigertail · 13/01/2024 15:33

Gorgeous name and I love Persy as a nickname

PurpleBugz · 13/01/2024 15:33

I love it so much I'm adding it to my list x

Scutterbug · 13/01/2024 15:32

I love it. I know one and she goes by nn Penny.

I like the name but would go with Sephie as a nickname. Percy pigs aren’t going anywhere soon and so much chance of bullying.

Good point

theduchessofspork · 13/01/2024 15:29

I like it, seems to be getting a bit popular

I love that name and it also always remind me of the Rossetti painting, although I know technically it is called 'Proserpine', the Latin version of the same myth.

Go for it, it is a beautiful name.

@Beetlewings 'Unfortunate connotations if you know Greek mythology'

Not really. She might be the goddess of the underworld but she is also the goddess of Spring and vegetation. The story is quite beautiful when look into it.

I would have thought the unfortunate connotations refer to the abduction and rape by Hades? I still like the name though, and most people won't think of that right away. I have a mythologically famous rape name and no one brings it up.
Planning to name a future cat Penthesileia (queen of the Amazons) though, so my views may be skewed...

I'm not so sure. Persephone was nurtured and protected by Hecate, and pagan myths and traditions don't view darkness with the same negative associations we do.

I like it. Persephone was the protagonist of Malorie Blackman's Noughts and Crosses, called 'Sephy' as a nickname. I think that's pretty too.

LiquidGold315 · 13/01/2024 13:26

I love it, it's the name of my car! Not sure on Perci a nickname though.

RitzyMcFee · 13/01/2024 13:22

I don't think it works because it's not a natural shortening.

Purse-Seff is rather than Purse-Cee.

Sleepygrumpyandnothappy · 13/01/2024 13:18

I really like it. DP hard vetoed it.

LenaLamont · 13/01/2024 13:17

Love it, but less keen on Persie/Percy as a nickname. Seph seems more likely.

Onelife2024 · 13/01/2024 13:16

Sorry not to my taste - it sounds too pretentious to me as a full name and I’m not keen on the nn Percy. Sephie is a lovely nn for a child, but maybe not for an adult.

MillicentRogers · 13/01/2024 13:09

It's lovely and the name of one of my nieces.

Her nickname is Seffie.

NewName24 · 13/01/2024 13:08

Thanks @DisplayPurposesOnly

peaceinourtime · 13/01/2024 13:08

It’s a mouthful to pronounce so most likely be shortened.

MrsMitford3 · 13/01/2024 13:01

I love it. Def use it!!

I agree Sephie for NN.

I admit to also knowing a dog named Persephone/nn Persy. Very sweet spaniel.

Riapia · 13/01/2024 12:59

Might get shortened to Phony.

modgepodge · 13/01/2024 12:53

I love it (would also prefer Sephie as nickname) but I think it has connotations of being extremely upper class/snobby etc which might put me off slightly. Also as previous posters have indicated, lots won’t know how to pronounce it!

ConsistentlyPeeved · 13/01/2024 12:51

Love Percy as a nickname. If I had another daughter I'd want to call her Persephone.

Also please don't take it the wrong way but I knew the most magnificent poodle called Percy. He was absolutely fucking majestic.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 13/01/2024 12:48

Purr SEFF oh knee

PamelaParis · 13/01/2024 12:47

Persephone is lovely, Perci is very much not. Go for Sephie as a nickname.
