Nickname Perci. For a girl, what do you think?

So long as she is not fat

Doublebiscuit77 · 14/01/2024 21:27

Brilliant name, especially with nn Sephy. Have liked it for a long time, think it's getting more popular now.

Snugglemonkey · 13/01/2024 22:38

I love it. Love Percy, or Seffie, or Effie.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 13/01/2024 22:31

My mum wanted to call me Persephone. My dad vetoed, for which I am grateful.

Thanks everyone. Appreciate the varied responses. Not in the UK so Percy Pigs aren't a thing here thank goodness.

Still , do you want to be called Percy? Assuming you’re female of course.

Persephone is beautiful, Percy is horrendous. I’ve know two Persephone’s and both (as adults) went by Seph which I also liked. Sephie is nice for a child

I agree, irs a lovely name, the issue is it’s such a mouth full no one ever uses it. As such only the nick name is used, so you may as well just name your child the nick name.

the fact the op spells Persy with an s, doesn’t change the fact it’s pronounced Percy, and she will effectively be naming her child Percy if that’s the shortened version she uses.

i don’t know many women who want to be called Percy. I certainly wouldn’t.

I can’t even begin to imagine the amount of bullying a little girl could have if she was called Percy due to Percy pigs. Can you imagine dhe was a little chubby? Even if she wasn’t, Children are cruel.

so as much as it’s lovely, I’d use it as a middle name,or pick a better nick name like Seph or Sephie, and just accept that the nick name is to all intents and purposes her name.

seph and sephie Are lovely, but don’t be calling your daughter Percy.

jhy · 13/01/2024 20:50

I know a little Persephone; it's extremely pretentious and trying-too-hard for a normal persons name.

User1786 · 13/01/2024 19:43

..or Perci, equally horrendous!!

Delphine is lovely: not so keen on Thomasina or Cosima.

As for Ptolemy, I can never hear this without associating it with Beatrix Potter's Alderman Ptolemy Tortoise.

Oldandcobwebby · 13/01/2024 19:36

Love it. Love it. Love it. Can I vote for Ptolemy if she has a baby brother?

pinkyredrose · 13/01/2024 19:34

It's gorgeous. Perci is vile though

Babyenroute · 13/01/2024 19:33

I have loved the name Persephone since reading a book with the character Persephone Brown when I was around 6! Cute nickname too, I would go for it

43ontherocksporfavor · 13/01/2024 19:30

Delphine is lovely. Thomasina. Cosima. All have a similar feel.

clarepetal · 13/01/2024 19:30

Love it. I know of someone who has it for their daughter. Posey for short which I also love.

NewYearNameChanger · 13/01/2024 19:28

I do like the name and we did consider it for DC1 but I just couldn’t imagine myself shouting ‘Persephone’ across the playground (even though we live in a very middle class area and no one would have batted an eyelid!). Perci would be a cute nick name but if she was even just a little chubby, she may get called Perci pig.

It’s blown my mind that pp don’t know how to pronounce Persephone. I like perci as well

Well for years I read Hermione as Hermi- own. I can’t help going to an Essex state school in the 70s with mainly Julie. Lisa, Susan and Tracey.

43ontherocksporfavor · 13/01/2024 19:20

Seraphina is gorgeous!

Wytchy · 13/01/2024 19:20

awful

43ontherocksporfavor · 13/01/2024 19:20

I like the sound but it will be read Percy- phone by a great many people. Dislike Percy as a nn.

RoseMarigoldViolet · 13/01/2024 19:17

Love the name, but prefer the nickname Persa. I think it sounds more feminine than Percy.

Sparklybutold · 13/01/2024 17:25

Personally it sounds ridiculous.

readingmakesmehappy · 13/01/2024 17:23

I know a couple of people who have Sephy as the diminutive

TiaSeeya · 13/01/2024 17:21

I find it a bit try-hard, iykwim. Although that may be clouded by a mother I know who had a baby one.
