Nickname Perci. For a girl, what do you think?

I mean it’s the Ancient Greek equivalent of calling your kid ‘Mrs Satan’. How it manages to be that and pretentious is quite the feat.

(Yes I know the concept of hell and the underworld are not exactly the same but still…)

WishesPromises · 17/01/2024 08:14

Love it, but prefer Sephy as a shortening.

PrawnDumplings · 17/01/2024 08:12

They will get called Percy-phone the whole time. No.

ManchesterBea · 17/01/2024 08:07

Pretty awful. And Percy is such a slippery name. Reminds me of the nasty guard in the green mile.

12lisalou · 17/01/2024 08:03

kind of sounds like a STD

sashh · 17/01/2024 07:55

I love it. Also I'm a Firefly fan so I associate it with the fictional planet.

Perci is also great.

One word of caution, I was a to school with a Philomena, when she started school she found it hard to write her name whereas all the Jane, Susan and Emmas found it easy.

mamacorn1 · 17/01/2024 07:42

No. Awful. Trying to hard to be different .
poor child will be spelling that out for years and years.

peppermintcrisp · 17/01/2024 07:41

do think it has a touch of the social aspirant about it unless you move in posh circles. But that’s not a big deal.

Indeed.

peppermintcrisp · 17/01/2024 07:40

I really like it. DP hard vetoed it.

My DH did too. I am glad I went for something elses now. It is a beautiful name but quite a statement.

It’s a very old and distinguished name. So all good as far as it goes.

I do think it has a touch of the social aspirant about it unless you move in posh circles. But that’s not a big deal.

The main trouble with it, IMO, these days is the ‘phone’ ending with its irregular pronunciation. It conjures up thoughts of megaphone, xylophone, francophone, payphone, saxophone etc. But that’s just me.

Funderthighs · 17/01/2024 07:22

I’ve met a Persephone recently, known as Percy. She was under 5 and super cute. I love it.

OctaviaRedQueen · 17/01/2024 06:52

Love it!

Takeitinturns · 16/01/2024 21:29

I want to like it, classic, brilliant nn potential, timeless in that it has never had a spike in popularity but the myth - it was bad right? If so, it might look like you are ignorant about the myth (just like I am!)

Squirrelsbite · 16/01/2024 16:26

Awful
think of your child having to spell that out at school every day
and how they may be laughed at at high school

Silvergreenblue · 16/01/2024 16:22

Sounds like some weird contraption.

Strokethefurrywall · 16/01/2024 14:11

confiscatedtables · 14/01/2024 21:38

Are you joking? She will get bullied. What are you thinking??

Why? Seriously, why on earth would she get bullied?

In my experience of living in a country with multiple cultures (US, European, Australian, Caribbean) and my kids going through the school systems, not ONCE have they ever reported or been aware of a child being bullied for their different name.

Seems to me only British adults ever attach a class marker to a name, or seem to perpetuate the implication that a particular name would be considered a reason for bullying. Ridiculous.

Seriously, get a grip.

I know a little Persephone; it's extremely pretentious and trying-too-hard for a normal persons name.

That's just your opinion

itsannie86 · 16/01/2024 12:14

Dislike

Daisybuttercup12345 · 15/01/2024 22:52

I prefer Stephanie. Stephie.

Leyenda · 14/01/2024 22:19

Hahaha

No

Sorry

Raspberrymoon49 · 14/01/2024 21:51

Bit pretentious in my opinion

ShaunaSadeki · 14/01/2024 21:49

I wish I had named DD Persephone and would have also had Percy as a nickname. DH vetoed it as try hard and too posh. That was 13 years ago and now our DC have turned out decidedly middle class (compared to their parents at least) and it would have been totally fine.

confiscatedtables · 14/01/2024 21:38

Are you joking? She will get bullied. What are you thinking??

kitsuneghost · 14/01/2024 21:36

Any way what is the point in giving a name such as Persephone just for them to be called percy or seph. Seph especially sounds like an illiterate grunt.
