AITA - unusual Baby name

Hi all-

So recently a friend of mine has announced their baby's arrival and the name.

Is there any way to approach them and explain that their weird baby name is... well too weird.

I googled the name at it's linked to a random film character in a weird movie and also very closely similar to a company they are about to start...

AITA for wanting to explain my feelings on the name before they register it?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
BrutusMcDogface · 11/01/2024 20:54

Is it Rambo?

Why do you think your feelings matter?
Why would they give a shit how you feel about their baby name?

DiscoBelle · 11/01/2024 20:50

The name they have chosen doesn’t have anything to do with you, leave them be.

CoffeeMama1 · 11/01/2024 20:46

I can guarantee you they don't give a shit what you think. Keep your opinion to yourself, you're not that important.

Anetaaa · 11/01/2024 20:40

I mean if they’re asking say your opinion but if they aren’t don’t 🤷‍♀️

JumpingJills · 11/01/2024 19:28

Is it... Coraline? (Character in a creepy movie, sort of tech company sounding...) if that's it yes, YABU coraline is a lovely name.

Its not irrelevant at all - OP could be completely off the mark (say name is Rose) or spot on (say name is Chlamidia)

added to which… we know it’s a character name and a business name where they work… so a STD? it will not be or anything similar

parents choice
so friends opinion is…. irrelevant

If your only criticism is that it's very unusual then don't say anything. Nothing wrong with an unusual name.

ChanelNo19EDT · 11/01/2024 18:43

I don't think you're an asshole. What you're saying is that this is more than a name not being 'to your taste'

It's got slagworthy connotations? I'd bring it to her attention.

MariaVT65 · 11/01/2024 18:39

Doesn’t matter if it’s linked to a film character. Is the kid going to get bullied for the name or have any difficulty with it? If not, then what’s the problem? I’m on the other end of the spectrum with a very very common name and that also sucks.

ChaseDreams · 11/01/2024 17:45

Savannah is a bad name. A great big expanse of hot desert where nothing can grow.

Irrelevant is a truly terrible name Grin

I too thought the baby's name was AITA! 😂

In short, unless it's your baby, it's not really any of your business. If you want to preserve the friendship, you simply smile and nod and say nothing at all.

Growlybear83 · 11/01/2024 09:33

I think some parents are extremely cruel with the ridiculous names they give their children and set them up for a lifetime of ridicule, but it really is none of your business what someone else chooses to call their child.

HarpyRampant · 11/01/2024 09:31

I think you should have a your solicitor write them a letter.

Obviously.

plumberdrain · 11/01/2024 09:29

Without knowing the name it's impossible to say.

Aita would however be a very bad name.

This thread is completely pointless as you won't say the name.

but that’s irrelevant

SoupDragon · 11/01/2024 09:00

Why do you think your feelings about the name matter?

Given you've now insulted their unusual baby name on a large parenting site there is a fair chance it will get back to them anyway.

How is Aita pronounced?

In any event, no you absolutely should not be so rude and nasty.

It's not pronounced any way at all from my understanding just like we don't pronounce AIBU you see the letters and read it as Am I Being Unreasonable. AITA is an acronym for Am I the Arsehole.
