This is one of the only names I can agree on with my DP,(both Persian and an example of strong heroine who is a powerful storyteller) however I think it is only suitable as a middle name.
I have tried to explain to my DP that it is hard to pronounce and that it would become ‘Shahza’ however he doesn't understand what is wrong with that and I struggle to explain.

I think it’s beautiful. Wasn’t someone in the famous Goldsmith family called Scheherazade? It’s not unthinkable.

BUT it’s very long. People will almost certainly misspell and mispronounce it. And what will they shorten it to? Because they certainly will - you need to work out what the abbreviations are likely to be and if you can stand any of them. Because that’s almost certainly, sadly, what she’ll end up being called.

If I’m pronouncing it correctly in my head, it’s a lovely name.

I have a DN whose name is quite commonly shortened but it never has been for him, my name has never been shortened either.
I think if you always use the full name then friends and family will use it. Your DD will decide if she’s happy for her name to be shortened or not when she is older, she will soon let friends know if she isn’t happy for it to be shortened to anything.

I know one - her name is generally pronounced correctly though is often shortened by family and friends to 'Sher'. I think it's a beautiful name.

Zac Gildsmiths wife is called Shehereizade. That’s all I can add to your question

SlightlyJaded · 09/01/2024 23:09

I read it as Sher-A-Zade which is also probably wrong. However much you both love the name, there is no question that your DD will spend her life telling people how to pronounce and spell it. And It will absolutely be shortened - but that's ok I think?

Shezraid is how I’ve heard it.
