Pandora?

winterbabyrose · 09/01/2024 11:12

20 weeks with our second and just found out we are having another little girl. We like names that aren't too uncommon, but aren't common either. Our DD is Winter nn Winnie so along those lines.

We are struggling to decide on a first name between three. Middle name would be Belle.

We like Pandora, Dahlia and Lilith.
So:
Pandora Belle
Dahlia Belle
Lilith Belle

Opinions please!

Both Pandora and Lilith are too well known.
Not keen on Dahlia, why not call her Delia?

RSintes · 09/01/2024 23:40

Adrian Mole

theduchessofspork · 09/01/2024 23:37

Um well Lilith is a demon

and Pandora’s Box released all the evil in the world, and is also a bit sniggery

Dahlia is alright but there are two pronunciations

I don’t like Belle - it’s a bit much to live up to and a bit sniggery - Belle du Jour etc - at the same time

Maybe Dahlia Isabel?

I perhaps at some alternatives

Paloma
Perdita
Lois
Isadora
Laurel

ArcticBells · 09/01/2024 21:06

Sorry OP but Dahlia is awful if pronounced as the flower

NewYearNewPyjamas · 09/01/2024 21:00

No way! There are two associations and neither of them are good. At least Lilith only has one bad association.

Dahlia kind of does too.

Hmmm names along the line of Winnie, which is cute...

Aurelie/Aurelia
Aurora (Rory)
Pippa
Clementine (clem)
Celeste (cece)
Talía
Thea
Eden

She's got knee socks and treacle coloured hair...

I absolutely love Dahlia said Dah-lia but I really hate it said day-lia.

Lilith is lovely too.

im not such a fan of Pandora just makes me think of the dopey girl from skins or tacky jewellery.

I know I should be more high brow and refer to the Greek myth, but yes I think of the silly Skins character too. Still prefer it to Lilith though.

Pandora just made me think instantly of the secret diary of Adrian mole. But then I'm just old. 😂

KirstenBlest · 09/01/2024 18:45

Suggestions: Perdita or Delia.
Lily instead of Lilith

Belle's too disney princess for me. Sorry

Onelife2024 · 09/01/2024 18:21

Sorry op, your name choices aren’t to my taste because if the negative connotations pp’s have pointed out. Alternatives-

Isadora
Thalia
Lilia

BodyKeepingScore · 09/01/2024 17:45

Lilith is rumoured to be the first wife of Adam and a pretty nasty character. Basically a she devil. Pandora has negative connotations too

Mintearo7 · 09/01/2024 13:48

Pandora no because of Pandora’s box. What about Paloma? Lilith okay but will always get called Lilly. Although Lil is a cute nickname. Dahlia I like but two ways to pronounce.

Pandora is a shop and box, no.

toastofthetown · 09/01/2024 12:38

Pandora is by far my favourite of your list. I love it, and would use it if DH were on board. If popularity is a concern to you, I’d avoid Lilith, as it’s so close to (and can easily be nicknamed) Lily, which is done to death.

WellFinch · 09/01/2024 11:38

Box or jewellery, that’s going to follow them forever.

Plus do you know that Lilith is a demon? I mean maybe that’s fine with you so crack on but investigate the meaning of names before giving them.

@Notthatcatagain Lilith predates Terry Pratchett books by thousands of years.

Belle shouts Disney Princess again if you know that and it’s fine then fine. I personally prefer Isabelle.

Black Dahlia is a very famous and tragic murder case.

Wytchy · 09/01/2024 11:34

I know a Pandora and and she says not a week goes by where she doesn't get a sleazy comment from some man about Pandora's Box.

I'd go for Dahlia.

Lilith is a bit...demony.

Whataretheodds · 09/01/2024 11:32

I'd go with Dahlia. It doesn't have nay mental associations for me unlike the other two.

Alternatives -
Jenevora
Elenora
Leonora
Cora

Or, left field, Hebe.

Notthatcatagain · 09/01/2024 11:32

Didn't Pandora do something pretty nasty, let all the evil out of a box and into the world? And Lilleth is a witch in the Terry Pratchett books. Either has the potential to make high school pretty miserable. Dahlia is the name of a flower though

Finbrek · 09/01/2024 11:30

Adrian Mole

IAmAtoms · 09/01/2024 11:29

yeah Pandora is nice, for a kitten😄

PinkChampange · 09/01/2024 11:29

I love the name Pandora

Sealemon · 09/01/2024 11:28

Congratulations!!

If you love the ‘ora’ sound, have you considered Cora, or Nora? To me they feel a little fresher than Pandora (which gives me musty vibes and feels a little dated) and goes quite nicely with Winter.

Moveoverdarlin · 09/01/2024 11:25

I loved the name Pandora. But my husband always said people will joke about Pandora’s Box.

And I didn’t like the link to the chavvy jewellery shop, so it was vetoed.
