They are all lovely, i’d just avoid Ellie as it’s so common right now. I know several toddler Ellies.

Falkenburg · 04/01/2024 12:25

Riley - awful.
Emma - nice name nothing special.
Ellie - pretty name. Not so good if genetically she might be a bit of a heffalump.
Lilah - ok-ish
Margot - lovely name.
Chloe - a bit of a 'mean girl' name.

DesertSnow · 04/01/2024 12:21

Margot

user1477391263 · 04/01/2024 12:00

Riley is awful. “For the love of Riley!!” Very tacky. Lilah will get endless variations on the spelling and pronunciation. Ellie is drippy sounding and SO overused.

I don’t like Chloe or Emma but there is nothing objectively wrong with them. Margot is OK.

I’d probably go for Margot if I had to choose one of these.

salamithumbs · 03/01/2024 23:21

My favourite is Lilah (or Lila) and I think Ellie, Chloe and Emma are nice too. Really dislike Margot and Riley, sorry!

Pemba · 02/01/2024 17:19

Imo Lilah is the best spelling, I suppose the 'H' on the end comes from using it as a diminutive of Delilah? So not random then. I also like the spelling Lila, although you might be more likely to get a pronunciation of 'Lee-la' rather than 'Lye-la' from that.

I don't like the spelling Lyla, just because I don't think it looks so pretty written down.

Goldenretrievermum · 02/01/2024 17:10

Riley - chavvy, sorry!
Emma - very pretty and classic, definitely due a reboot and feels fresh again. My favourite of your list
Ellie - Really like
Lilah - not bad but not great
Margot - nice but it’s faddy and overused at the minute
Chloe - dated

peaceinourtime · 02/01/2024 15:48

None to be frank. If you go with Lilah please leave if the h at the end, it looks tacky people adding a h to the end of names that really don’t need it.

Jessieshome · 02/01/2024 15:07

Emma and Ellie, are very pretty, lovely names, have been for centuries but they are also extremely popular and have been for decades.

How are you pronouncing Lilah? Lye-luh, Lee-lah, Lee-luh, Lill-ler, Lill-lah....? I'd assume Lill-ler but I think it might be Lye-luh, which I think it is nicer spelled Lyla.

I really like Margot.

I have always loved Chloe and always fancied calling a daughter Chloe after a character I like in Home and Away in the 90's!

Riley is awful.

Good luck!

Theoldwoman · 02/01/2024 13:59

Emma

Alloveragain3 · 02/01/2024 11:17

I really like all of these

Emma is beautiful and classic so probably my favourite
Margot is becoming very popular, if that bothers you

Other suggestions: Elodie, Eloise, Mila

MerryChristmasToYou · 02/01/2024 10:25

Babies called Chloe in England & Wales since 1996 (darkgreener.com)
Chloe was hugely popular in the late 1990s.

The figures for Ellie will seem more stable because a lot of Ellies will have a BC name like Eleanor, Eliana, Elodie, Eloise

NachosAndCheese · 02/01/2024 10:14

Ellie is so overused, at one point it felt like every girl was an Ellie-May or Ellie-Rose.

I like Emma, Chloe or Lilah but spelt Lyla. It does feel like Chloe has had it’s time as a few years back it was everywhere.

LlynTegid · 02/01/2024 09:49

Emma or Ellie. Chloe seems a bit last decade to me.

InTheRainOnATrain · 02/01/2024 09:47

I vote Chloe- I think it is due a comeback! Half her future nursery or friends mums will probably be called Emma because it’s so ubiquitous amongst 30 something women. Margot is very popular now. So is Ellie. Lilah and Riley I just don’t like.

apronbellybarbie · 02/01/2024 09:41

Emma is also great

apronbellybarbie · 02/01/2024 09:41

Love Ellie!

Would've used it if someone we know didn't already have a daughter called Ellie

MerryChristmasToYou · 02/01/2024 09:39

Riley - awful
Emma - lovely
Ellie - overused
Lilah - awful
Margot - don't like it
Chloe - overused 20 years ago

theduchessofspork · 02/01/2024 00:08

Emma or Chloe

Margot is great but very overused right now

Ellie is done to death

Lilah - it’s a bit awkward, Lily is done to death and it blurs with all the Lola/Leah/Lyra/Leila/luna/Laras

Riley is just appalling. How about Ruby?

mathanxiety · 02/01/2024 00:07

I like Chloe, Lilah, and Emma.

Pemba · 01/01/2024 23:42

Chloe is still beautiful. Ignore those saying it's dated because it was more popular in the 90s.

Emma very pretty and classic.

There are too many Ellies.

Riley, very different from the others, not very classy imo.

Onelife2024 · 01/01/2024 22:07

Lovely names!
Chloe and Emma are two of my favourite names - beautiful, well known names, not faddy, no need to shorten them, and suit all ages well
I love Lilah too (prefer the Lila spelling though) - more modern than Emma and Chloe if that’s your preference
Ellie is lovely, as long as you don’t mind how commonly used it is. I’d probably use it as a nn for Eloise or Eleanor.
I like Margot but it’s very “of the moment” and might not date well
Riley is least to my taste, but I think it could grow on me if I met a girl with that name

username268 · 01/01/2024 21:52

Congratulations!

I like Emma best. It is a true classic.
Ellie is also nice but I know so many Ellie/Emily/Ella/...
Margot is cute, I think it's on trend at the moment. I can't picture a baby Margot though...maybe that's just me.
Chloe is a perfectly nice name, just not to my taste.
I dislike Riley and Lilah ( think the 'i' sound is too harsh). Layla is a prettier alternative IMO.

Hope you find the perfect name for your little one!

Comedycook · 01/01/2024 21:49

I like them all except Riley which I thought was a boy's name but it terrible either way.

Chloe is lovely but a bit 90s

Lilah is nice... but I'd prefer Lyra or Leah

Ellie is nice but I prefer it as a nickname for Eleanor rather than a name in its own right

Emma is nice enough

Margot is ok but a little frumpy perhaps

BoleynMemories13 · 01/01/2024 21:46

You have a real range of styles there:-
Emma - traditional classic
Ellie and Chloe - Massively popular in the 00s, both on a big downward spiral so can seem a bit dated now.
Margot and Lilah - Of the moment trends. Margot especially is EVERYWHERE right now.
Riley - Chavvy

Emma is by far my favourite. I like Lila/Lyla too but spelt these ways. The h seems unnecessary and makes it look like it's short for Delilah.

Margot was refreshing 5 years ago but completely sick of it now. People seem to still be picking it in their droves as the lack of ONS data for 2022, let alone 2023, means plenty still seem to think it's 'different'. In reality, it must be firmly top 50 by now. Not that that's a bad thing but if you do want to avoid the name of the moment I'd definitely steer clear as everyone seems to be having the same idea right now.
