Opinions for triplets!

We are blessed enough to be having triplets due next month - a boy and two girls!

90% sure that DH and I are certain on their names but something in me keeps saying that they’re just not right. I’m Irish and he’s English, living in Northern Ireland but planning a move abroad in the future so we’ve chosen names that represent both our backgrounds yet are still quite mainstream and (hopefully) easy to pronounce. Any opinions good or bad very welcomed!

Conor Alexander
Maeve Isabel
Beatrice Fiadh (pronounced Fia, as in Mia)

I love Conor Maeve and Beatrice together. Beatrice is one of my favourite girls names. If you like it, use it.

Maireas · 29/12/2023 20:28

Names don't need to "match", they're not kittens.
I think your original names are gorgeous.
Beatrice is a beautiful name - stick with it!

Strawberrycheesecake7 · 29/12/2023 20:26

Lovely names. Congratulations on your babies. You must be so excited.

Justnoidea · 29/12/2023 20:24

I agree that it seems a bit odd to have 2 x Irish names and one not…if it were twins with one Irish one English I wouldn’t bat an eyelid but with 3 it seems unbalanced somehow!

I don’t love Fiadh as I just hear English people saying “fear” or “Thea” (I’m from NI but live in England) so I’d probably choose another Irish girls name - Orla is lovely and has no pronunciation or spelling issues.

Onelife2024 · 29/12/2023 20:24

Love Conor, Maeve and Beatrice. Congratulations 🙌

Maeve, Lara and Conor go well together - use Beatrice as a middle name?

@Notalldogs23 I think this is a lovely idea but it worries me that I have a name along the lines of Laura. Worried that it could come off strange and too similar to Lara

I think if you are irish ( i'm from the south) Conor is obviously very different sounding then if you are from the UK. To me it is a very classic name as in I know people from multiple generations with it. I love it. I love Maeve also (again a very classic irish name). Beatrice is very different but is lovely, it is different from Conor and Maeve but as triplets it would be nice to have different names and not be so matchy.

btw Connor with 2 n is the surname

LadyGeorginaSmythe · 29/12/2023 20:14

@Rockrobon This is a good point.
I have twins but they don't have twinny names that especially go together. It was more important to me the children's names all flowed when said together, and that I loved all their names...3 kids in total

nocoolnamesleft · 29/12/2023 20:13

CultraSloan · 29/12/2023 19:51

@nocoolnamesleft Thank you! Currently 33 weeks and induction planned at 37 weeks.. nerves creeping in!

Ah, that makes sense. But any number of weeks that starts with a 3 is brilliant. All fingers crossed for a straight forward delivery, and smooth run thereafter.

riotlady · 29/12/2023 20:12

I love all three of them

Rockrobon · 29/12/2023 20:12

100% use Beatrice if it is a name you’ve always loved. I think it’s a gorgeous name. We have id twins and used names we have both always loved. They are different styles and don’t necessarily ‘go’ but they are individuals so it really doesn’t matter.

Emelene · 29/12/2023 20:04

I like Fiadh Beatrice too!

LadyGeorginaSmythe · 29/12/2023 20:02

Fiadh Beatrice works better I think

caringcarer · 29/12/2023 20:02

How lucky to behaving triplets. Congratulations OP. I like Beatrice, Charlotte and Isabelle/a. I'm not sure Connor as a more modern name goes with the more traditional sounding girls names. I'd go for a more traditional boys name tbh, but I like traditional names for DC.

UsingChangeofName · 29/12/2023 19:58

I think triplets go through so much of their lives being known as 'the triplets', so I would make a deliberate decision to make sure they are individual names and not 'matchy'.

I personally would write Connor with 2xn if someone told me that was their name, so I imagine that might be a bit of an ongoing theme.

Notalldogs23 · 29/12/2023 19:51

Lovely names! Maeve and Conor do go better together than Beatrice, but I don't think it is that important..? My name doesn't go with either of my siblings.

That said, if you love Beatrice, I'd go for something other than Maeve for your other dd. Maybe something like Niamh which I think is less irish sounding somehow? I'm Irish BTW.

Illpickthatup · 29/12/2023 19:48

I'd go with Fiadh Beatrice instead. Conor, Maeve and Fiadh go better I think.

CultraSloan · 29/12/2023 19:42

@tchotchke Vancouver - long term but not permanent. Ideally we’d like to be back and settled in NI in time for them to start secondary school.

SheilaFentiman · 29/12/2023 19:41

If you love Beatrice, please use it.

Beatrice, Lara, Conor work well.

I would expect Conor will get “one N or two?” a lot.

tchotchke · 29/12/2023 19:36

Are you going to the ‘French’ or ‘British’ parts of Canada and is it a permanent move?

SaulHudsonDavidJones · 29/12/2023 19:33

I really like them and disagree that they don't go together! Go for it. Names are so subjective, you'll never please everyone. All you'll get here is a handful of opinions from people who likely have different taste to you. You probably wouldn't like their choice of names so go with what you like. You've picked 3 lovely, normal, meaningful names.

MerryChristmasToYou · 29/12/2023 19:29

Charlotte is much nicer than Maeve

17caterpillars1mouse · 29/12/2023 19:24

Conor Alexander - I like Conor, not a name I would use and it used to feel a bit working class naughty boy but now it's rarely used it feels quite fresh and handsome. Alexander always works well in the middle name spot

Maeve Isabel - Maeve is my least favourite of your names, it seems to be having a bit of a moment so may date badly. I like Isobel

Beatrice Fiadh - Beatrice is lovely though I slightly prefer Beatrix, it has more spark.
