Ruby or Morgan?

I recently made a thread asking about Morgan for a girl but now we have another choice that is a completely different style. My husband prefers Morgan but I like ruby it seems much more classic, I don't hate Morgan but it does feels slightly trendy/2000s to me. Which name do you prefer?

Good choice @hcarter8 . Ruby is much nicer.

Morgan, I know an English one who is very elegant and in France we have Morganes, always seem to be very pretty.

Hello, we've decided to go with Ruby over morgan as it seems much more timeless (my dhs great grandmother who was born in 1923 was called ruby!) Morgan although a Welsh name originally feels very American for my taste especially on a girl imo. Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

Ruby 😊

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 02/01/2024 20:35

Ruby is gorgeous. I know one nn Rube.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 02/01/2024 20:29

Ruby is a lovely name and I reckon when she's grown up, she will thank you for it.

Morgan's a surname. Why would you (for either sex IMO, but certainly for a girl)?

Ruby is not to my taste, but much much better than Morgan.

😁

I know 2 children with the first name Morgan - of course it's a first name.

resm · 30/12/2023 12:50

Another vote for Ruby! Morgan is a common surname where I’m from so I don’t really see it as a first name. That being said, I used to work with a female Morgan so I know it’s not unheard of.

TootenCarMoon · 30/12/2023 12:20

I much prefer Morgan, I know far too many dogs called Ruby.

SilverSimca · 30/12/2023 11:26

Definitely Ruby.

Ruby 100%. it's a really pretty name, biased as I have one! I think it will age really well and from what I have read most girls named Ruby like their name.

We always get complemented on it and have never come across another one in any baby/toddler groups where I am.

I know a boy Morgan and associate it more for boys. I also don't like the nicknames for Morgan - Morg?!
Where as my Ruby gets called Rue or RuRu most of the time!

Whataretheodds · 29/12/2023 16:52

Morgan is a boy's name. I know it's been used for girls since the 20th C but no surprise that it sounds like a boy's name!

LauderSyme · 29/12/2023 16:48

I like Morgan or Morgana for a girl, she would share her name with the powerful enchantress of legend.

I am afraid I have never liked Ruby.

MaloneMeadow · 29/12/2023 16:44

Definitely Ruby. Morgan doesn’t have a nice sound to it whatsoever and is more of a boys name to me, always think it’s odd on a girl

Whataretheodds · 29/12/2023 16:43

Morgana was the woman in the Arthurian legend, I think

WeeOrcadian · 29/12/2023 16:42

Morgan is a boy's name

Ruby = Kaiser Chiefs

ShyMaryEllen · 29/12/2023 16:36

Morgan is ok for a boy, but I prefer Morwenna for a girl.

Catsknowbest · 29/12/2023 16:30

Ruby definitely 😊

LlynTegid · 29/12/2023 16:29

Ruby

MerryChristmasToYou · 29/12/2023 16:28

I was at school with a boy Morgan and he was Morg too.

GladAllOver · 29/12/2023 16:22

I know of a boy Morgan. His friends call him Morg. Would you want that for your daughter?

PurpleOrchid42 · 29/12/2023 16:21

I'd go with Ruby.

Onelife2024 · 29/12/2023 16:02

I really like Ruby

Not keen on Morgan for a girl
