Modern alternative for Jennifer

Jordanpayne · 28/12/2023 18:01

please let me know your modern suggestions for the name Jennifer, can also be a name that sounds different but has a link to.

Jennifer is my late nans name and I’d love a link to her for our baby girl or boys middle name.

the names we have in mind for first names are:
girl: Daphne
boy: Leo

surname: Payne

other children: Ezra

I love the idea of Juniper as a middle name but Daphne Juniper Payne is a bit of a mouthful.

i know it’s a hard one, thanks in advance.⭐️

If it's going to be a middle name why do you need to modernise it? Nobody uses middle names.

Just use Jennifer, or whatever other name you like, but don't use a-name-which-is-not-Jennifer and claim it is in any way linked to your grandmother, whose name is Jennifer.

This.

What’s wrong with Jennifer? I like it. Daphne is bloody awful, it sounds like one of Bertie Wooster’s spare aunts.

Bridgerton innit

theduchessofspork · 28/12/2023 22:44

What’s wrong with Jennifer?!

Daphne Jennifer is nice

Jennifer means white wave or fair one so you could use a name with a similar meaning rather than a similar sound. E.g. Alba, Astrid, Bianca,

My toddlers middle name is Jennifer, I think it’s a lovely name and would have considered it as a first name but was used as it’s also MIL name

tdino · 28/12/2023 21:09

My sister is Jennifer, no middle name, but everyone sang Jennifer juniper.

I'm clearly very old.

Caspianberg · 28/12/2023 21:04

Daphne Jenna
Leo Jenson

Ginette sounds way more dated than Jennifer.

Paulette, Yvette, Nanette - all sound like someone’s Gran.

GodDammitCecil · 28/12/2023 20:45

Sorry OP - agree with everyone else, it’s an odd brief you’ve given us.

You want to use it as a middle name? Just go with Jennifer.

Middle names - in my opinion - are for honouring special family members, or going off-piste in a way you wouldn’t for first names.

Just go with Jennifer. It’s not like it’s used at all often, anyway.

Daphne in Neighbours. What a romance!

SiennaMillar · 28/12/2023 20:40

I love Jennifer

KirstenBlest · 28/12/2023 20:36

What's Ginnette got to do with Jennifer? -ette names are very 1950s
Isn't it Jeannette anyway?

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 28/12/2023 20:29

I agree with all those that say just to use Jennifer (nice name btw), but Ginnette if yiu wanted in modernized?

Jenna screams "80s" to me. It's far more dated than Jennifer - I know Jennifer's from 80 to 8!

Frightenedbunny · 28/12/2023 20:23

My friend was christened Jennifer but gets Ginny.

PurpleLass1234 · 28/12/2023 20:21

My 11 year old is Jennifer, known as Jen. Named after her grandmother. We (and she) love her name as it’s relatively unusual now. When she introduced herself, she says her name is Jennifer though, as most people mishear Jen for Gem!

Snowpatrolling · 28/12/2023 20:20

Jay for a boy?

MalcolmTuckersDisdainfulSneer · 28/12/2023 20:19

Ginevra is lovely

Floopani · 28/12/2023 20:18

Jennifer Juno Payne
Jennifer Juniper Payne

Both sound lovely to me! You can call her JJ for short when she is older.

Askforwisdom · 28/12/2023 20:13

Ginevra (soft G) is the Italian for Jennifer

WashItTomorrow · 28/12/2023 20:12

Jennifer is great. I believe it’s a form of Guinevere, but that’s even older.

KirstenBlest · 28/12/2023 20:11

Neighbours those of us growing up in the 1980s

Dearover · 28/12/2023 20:09

Daphne is pure Scooby Doo to anyone growing up in the 70s or 80s
