Elle?

What do we think of Elle?

Big sister is Anna, so would be Anna and Elle - is this a bit too Frozen?? 😬

Other names we thought of include Eva, Julia, Cora... also as a bit of a wildcard, Alexis?

Open to suggestions too, but I do really like Elle I think so would appreciate opinions on that as well.

I mangle words that end in an l, like Paul, Hull etc so would personally avoid Elle! I love Julia though, and Cora's ok.

OopsieeDaisy · 29/12/2023 09:51

I like the name written down but agree with others it sounds like you’re nicknaming them ‘L’ when said aloud. Would be lovely as a shortening though, eg for Eleanor. Otherwise Cora is lovely and goes well with Anna.

MerryChristmasToYou · 28/12/2023 14:14

Nell is better

catherinewales · 28/12/2023 13:05

I love Elle

modgepodge · 28/12/2023 13:04

I like it, but I would give her a longer name and use Elle as the shortening personally. Eg Eleanor, elodie, Eloise, Ellen, elena? Or even something like Gabrielle.

Dunno. Would you name your kid “She”? As in, here’s Lisa and she?

Hopefully she won't ever move to a French speaking country!

Well no, but it doesn't mean "she" in English. Lots of names have different meanings in different languages.

It's so insubstantial and generic. It's French for 'she'.

All the other names on your list are far better. Alexis is interesting in a good way.

resm · 28/12/2023 01:33

It didn’t make me think of Frozen until you said. The pronunciation of Anna is different and it’s a longer El sound than in Elsa (at least it is in my accent) so maybe sisters called Anna & Elsie/Ellie would be more easily linked to the movie.

if you love it, you should go for it. There’s nothing objectively wrong with the name. It sounds perfectly fine with Anna and, even if it doesn’t, it doesn’t have to ‘go’ anyway.

SkaneTos · 28/12/2023 00:12

I think Elle is a lovely name.

MerryChristmasToYou · 27/12/2023 14:00

I don't like Eva. It's better than Ava but still don't see the appeal. They all seem nothingy and samey

LikeItOrLumpIts · 27/12/2023 13:24

It’s such a nothing name. Eva is lovely but there are soooo many Evies.

cameliasun · 27/12/2023 11:30

Surely Elle is always pronounced El, it's French for she.

MerryChristmasToYou · 27/12/2023 10:07

It looks unfinished, and I'd hear it as L. She'll be Ellie, which is overused and meh.

Ifeelsolow247 · 27/12/2023 08:24

InterSteller · 27/12/2023 06:45

I never know whether to pronounce it El or Ellie?

Ellle/ Ellie/ Eva/ Evie etc are super popular where we live and sound a bit meh to me so I'd not choose it on that basis.

I really like Julia, Cora and Alexis though! I'd pick Alexis as it sounds fab with Anna.

I've never known it pronounced like Ellie.
It's like the ending of Gabrielle or Michelle.

Ifeelsolow247 · 27/12/2023 08:22

I like it.

I don't see it as the letter "L" as another poster mentioned.
When I hear a name I visualise the spelling of it in my head, and see Elle.
I've never actually met an Elle. Lots of Ellies and Ellas, but Elle sounds more sophisticated somehow and would work well as she goes through every age group.

tokesqueen · 27/12/2023 07:25

Dull dull dull.

PurBal · 27/12/2023 06:54

I immediately think of Elle Woods, not a bad connotation. So yeah, it’s okay.

It’s not my favourite name but I’m surprised by the dislike for it on here.

I don’t think it goes with Anna at all though. I like Cora and suggest Helen and Iris.

The name Elle doesn't sound complete. I would assume that you've just shortened their name.

kitsuneghost · 27/12/2023 01:18

Elle is a bit sharp to go with Anna. I think you need to keep the vowel sound like Ellie (which is only 61 in top 100) or Ella (which is more popular but still not top 10)

MissBuffyAnneSummers · 27/12/2023 01:06

Cora is lovely

Cheshiresun · 27/12/2023 01:06

I do often think Elle could as well be "L". I think Ellie and Ella are pretty and I don't know of any girls with those names in our school classes.

Chichimcgee · 27/12/2023 01:03

Not a fan of Elle. I saw a video recently about a little girl who changed her name because she didn’t have a name, she just had a letter (L) so cute but I see her point!
I like Cora and Julia is due a come back I think
