As siblings, are these names too similar?

Both are VERY popular, if that bothers you

Justrolledmyeyesoutloud · 27/12/2023 22:03

And Freddie is really common atm

Justrolledmyeyesoutloud · 27/12/2023 22:02

I know brithers called Jack and Max they work really well together imo

justanothermanicmonday1 · 27/12/2023 21:44

Jack and max where brothers in eastenders lol 😂

ALunchbox · 27/12/2023 21:43

Too close I think

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 27/12/2023 21:35

Makes me think of the branning brothers in eastenders

Allegraspicnic · 27/12/2023 21:33

Jack and Fred, lovely symmetrical names, Tom feels a bit more dated than Fred, and if anyone tries a pet name I much prefer Freddie to Tommy

AndDrSamBeckettNeverReturnedHome · 27/12/2023 20:59

Thomas, Tom. Tommy

Frederick Fred Freddie.

BananaSplitsss · 27/12/2023 19:23

Tom not Fred

BananaSplitsss · 27/12/2023 19:22

AntiHop · 26/12/2023 23:52

There are two brothers on eastenders with those names, just in case that bothers you.

😁

MerryChristmasToYou · 27/12/2023 19:21

Not keen on Fred. Love Tom.

So after a lot of debate today I think we've narrowed it down to

Jack and Tom
Jack and Fred

Obviously one of us prefers Tom, the other prefers Freddie. We're going to try out Tom for the day tomorrow (we've already spent a day using Fred)

Which would you choose?

Both lovely and much better than Jack and Max. Personal preference would be Jack and Tom.

Thmssngvwlsrnd · 27/12/2023 19:18

Not James, really annoying to have same initall plus sounds like a singer/clothing
Jack James.

Whilst I think Max is too similar James is worse.

Love Jack and Finn
Jack and Tom is ok (like pp suggestion of Toby)

Suggestions

Jack & Sebastian (Seb)

Jack & Harry

Jack & Roary (hmm maybe not)

Congratulations btw

MerryChristmasToYou · 27/12/2023 10:44

Thanks. Jack and James are basically the same name (both from Jacobus), but I love James. I don't love James as a middle name because it's overused.

You don't like Jimmy so that rules it out, but you'd probably grow to like Jimmy.

I also like Finn (finley) and Ollie (Oliver). They're ok but Finley seems a bit wet and Finn a bit 'naughty boy'.
Oliver is fine but very popular, also seems slightly wet.

Husband likes Tom. - me too, if short for Thomas. Can't go wrong with it.

** I'm aware that Jack was used as a form of John. Finn seems a bit trendy and I know one who is a young version of a tearaway.

Jack & Tom would get my vote.

They're fine but you'll be saying 'Jack & Max' a lot.
What were the other names you were considering?

Freddie was my favourite, James is my husbands. He likes James cos he really likes the nickname Jimmy, which I really dislike so it's putting me off James entirely if there's a good chance my husband ends up calling him Jimmy!

I also like Finn (finley) and Ollie (Oliver). Husband likes Tom.

Too similar.
Jack and ..

Harry
Tom
Sam
Richard
Clyde
Fred
Gus
Wal - Walter or Wallace

NotFastButFurious · 27/12/2023 08:12

I think the “a” sound with a hard end makes them just a bit too similar.

A plan: first go through each others lists and strike off the names that are absolute no’s.

Then go through again and give each name a score out of 10, both of you on both lists. Highest score wins!

Congratulations!! Personally I’d go for either another one syllable name, or another 4 letter name.
