Casper for DC3 - what do you think?

I am pregnant with DC3 and we both love the name Casper - what do you all think? Obviously we know the friendly ghost! But is it too friendly ghost? We are having a really hard time thinking of another name we like as much!

We have chosen Casper too, I prefer Caspar but going with the most common spelling for ease.

My parents and friends don’t really like it which has thrown me a lot, but it’s my favourite name! Lovely IMO and I think Cass is a sweet nickname.

moonshinepoursthroughmywindow · 24/12/2023 17:24

Not a bad name at all but I definitely prefer the Caspar spelling (I used to know a rather nice Scandinavian person called that). If I think of any cultural association, I think of the wise men.

Winnipeggy · 23/12/2023 22:36

I mean when was Casper the friendly ghost actually last shown? 90's?? It won't be a consideration for kids these days

Rocknrolla21 · 23/12/2023 21:52

It’s not a bad name. It got really popular by me at one point a few years back but died back down again.

Mintygoodness · 23/12/2023 21:50

Great name.

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 23/12/2023 21:14

My youngest is called Casper - he's 10 He has had a tiny amount of stick about the friendly ghost, but he's a well-liked character, so it's no bad thing. We had a bit of a debate about the spelling, but the "er" ending is slightly more common, so we went with that. I thought we would shorten it to Cass but we quite literally never do 🤣

blackpanth · 23/12/2023 21:08

I like it

Doublebiscuit77 · 23/12/2023 21:07

Great name.

MerryChristmasToYou · 23/12/2023 16:25

The 3 Wise Men didn't appear until 6th Jan.

It's a nice name OP. I prefer the Caspar spelling but Casper and Kasper are used.
Casper seems to be the most used.

peaceinourtime · 23/12/2023 15:28

Casper is a lovely name. I wouldn’t worry about the ‘friendly ghost’ connection, that movie is almost 30 years old so todays children would have no memory of it as it was before their time.

theduchessofspork · 23/12/2023 08:48

I really like it - and it’s becoming quite popular, so you don’t need to worry about friendly ghosts

Do spell it Caspar if you are in the UK though, or he will spend his entire life dealing with misspellings

RosesAndHellebores · 23/12/2023 05:25

It's DS's third name. Because he was born on Christmas Day. Caspar, Melchior and Balthazar were the three wise men.

PermanentTemporary · 23/12/2023 05:17

I know a Caspar, doing A levels now, awesome child. Great name.

redteapot · 23/12/2023 05:13

I love it! I have taught a Kacper (Polish) and thought it was a great name. As far as I'm aware, the friendly ghost is not well known amongst children nowadays so it wouldn't be a 'thing' amongst his peers.

HorseyMum346 · 23/12/2023 00:18

I can’t hear it without thinking of the ghost! It’s a dog name to me

Ditto Ghost and Dog

A spaniel name!

But all names have associations.

piscofrisco · 23/12/2023 04:54

Love it.
Also Balthazar if you wanted to go along that theme. Melchior not so much!

Amdone123 · 23/12/2023 04:13

I like it, too. It's refreshing.
My first thought was Casper Rudd, too.

BCBird · 23/12/2023 03:24

Know one Kasper- Polish nationality. Still.makes me think.friemdly ghost though🙄

46mumof6 · 23/12/2023 03:19

Love it wanted to call my 1st Casper but everyone kept saying the friendly ghost, wish I hadn't listened to them and used the name

Celia24 · 23/12/2023 03:19

My OH is Kaspar. I got the friendly ghost joke relentlessly at first...

But he's Scandinavian, so he didn't grow up with it at least!

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 23/12/2023 03:01

I have a relative called Caspar. He’s invariably called Cas.

Joystir59 · 23/12/2023 02:42

Or a ghost

Joystir59 · 23/12/2023 02:42

Great for a dog

user1492757084 · 23/12/2023 01:51

Casper or Caspar are both adorable.
I've met a few Scandinavian Caspers.
Usually Cass or Cas... all lovely.

wheniswinterover · 23/12/2023 01:19

Yes, a friendly one
