My friend from Norway is called Ida (pronounced 'eeda') , and I think it is a beautiful name.
It means "hardworking" or "industrious one"

Ida is harsher than Ada as mentioned above, but not in a bad way.

It's nice. Maybe a bit try hard like, which old name can we choose that hasn't been used too much yet? May get constantly asked to spell it/mistake for Ada?

No, way too harsh. Like Edie or Ada but Ida is terrible. I don't like Iris or Ivy either! It's the eye that I don't like, not the 'da'. What about Freida or Rhoda? They seem to have a bit more too them.
