Hi MNers, sister to Lucy due in a few months and we finally have a shortlist both I and DH love:

  • Elsa
  • Olivia
  • Hazel
  • Ariane

Which one is your favourite and why? Last name is short and common (think Jones).

Thanks

I love Elsa! Elsa-Olivia is beautiful too x

timoteigirl · 01/01/2024 21:01

Elsa - Born Free lioness & Frozen
Olivia - booooring!
Hazel - okay
Ariane - the best one because it is classy like Lucy. Also I like a longer first name with a short surname.

Notmetoo · 01/01/2024 19:45

Esme is lovely and I think nicer than your original list.

PickledScrump · 01/01/2024 19:38

I’d go with Elsa, it’s lovely and I think the main frozen link has passed. Yes there’s another coming out but the huge frozen thing was 10 years ago now. When the second one came out it wasn’t as big. Elsa sounds lovely with Lucy and isn’t over used. I don’t think kids would make any more of a link to a Disney movie than a child named Anna or Belle

mrsgplusthree · 01/01/2024 19:22

I think Hazel is really lovely, and my favourite of those four, but I would second the other suggestions of Olive as an alternative to Olivia - way less ‘done’ and I think it’s timeless

Lindy2 · 01/01/2024 18:20

I've always loved the name Hazel.

I remember meeting a girl named Hazel when I was a child and I thought it was such a great name.

Mummytotheboy · 01/01/2024 18:15

Hazel is lovely and it compliments Lucy. Olivia is too popular, Elsa will be too busy building snowmen and the other one sounds like my colleague talking about her daughter called Rianne: our Rianne but think northern!

Bellamondus · 01/01/2024 11:30

Arianna xx

Pemba · 01/01/2024 11:12

Wow there are so many posters who clearly just read the first post and then go straight to the end to delight everyone with their words of wisdom. Tedious.

THE BABY HAS BEEN NAMED ESME.

dressedforcomfort · 01/01/2024 11:12

Hazel is just beautiful. I love nature names.

witte · 01/01/2024 11:02

I think Elsa is ruined still. She'll get constant let it gos

TheWillowTrees · 01/01/2024 10:59

My DD is an Olivia. There are lots of them but she loves her name- popularity isn't a reason not to use a name if you love it.

Hazel makes me think of rabbits.

Delassalle · 01/01/2024 10:51

• Hazel
Is lovely.

UKAus · 01/01/2024 10:43

As my first name is Lucy and was in a class at primary school with an Esme, think they are a great combo. Glad you haven't picked Elsa. People will literally sing to the child when they hear her name "Let it go". As a child some adults would get this stupid look on their face and sing "Lucy in the sky with diamonds." I hated it. But now those people are very old and it isn't heard as much. Will have the odd person say "My dogs name is Lucy." Which is ok. But Esme is lovely and the two together will be nice. I never wanted to be called Esme but liked the name and Lucy is an easy name. People liked to spell easy names and say them in my experience.

Pemba · 01/01/2024 09:40

OP has chosen the name - it's Esme.

Beachywave · 01/01/2024 09:17

If you like Olive as a NN why not just go with Olive? It’s a nice name on its own and less common.

Luhou · 01/01/2024 08:23

Have you considered Eliza?

It's like a combination of Elsa, Olivia and Hazel but a known name that's not to common.

Nevertouchakoala · 01/01/2024 08:03

Hazel. Hands down.

Heyhoherewegoagain · 01/01/2024 07:56

Olivia…I’m biased as it’s one of my dd’s names, she’s 26

user1492757084 · 01/01/2024 07:20

Lucy and ..
Hazel or Mary or Mariella

Imisssleep2 · 01/01/2024 07:06

Hazel, Olivia has been done to death in last few years

Mumto6ac · 01/01/2024 04:56

Ariane is my favourite because it’s a bit different without being too out there.
Lucy & Olivia also sounds good though x

GG1986 · 01/01/2024 01:00

Olivia goes well with Lucy. They say it's a popular name, but I don't know any Olivias and my 7 year old daughters school year has no Olivias in it and neither did her nursery.

Runary2711 · 01/01/2024 00:55

My sister is Lucy Ann Olivia so this made me smile! Olivia is a pretty name

Takenobull · 31/12/2023 23:40

The only thing I would say about all of the names you’ve chosen with the exception of Olivia is that they’re all a bit more unusual whereas Lucy is what I’d consider quite a classic name.
Will Lucy grow up feeling a bit plain against her sister? I know I definitely have felt like that over the years with my sister having a lovey Irish name and myself a very English boring name in comparison.

Just some food for thought.

Lucy & Lottie
Lucy & Alice
Lucy & Lizzie
Lucy & Ivy
Lucy & Emma
