Welsh boy name suggestions for a brother to Rhys

We are at loggerheads! DH doesn't like my suggestions and I don't like his, so looking for everyone else's 😂.

My top one so far is Iestyn but I'm not 100% and I'm stumped on a middle name to go with. Ideally would like a Welsh first name. I'm not sure if anyone can make any suggestions, as there isn't 1000s to choose from! 🤦‍♀️

Llongyfarchiadau mawr! Lovely name x

DaNiYmaOHyd · 29/04/2024 16:35

That's a brilliant name @Shkbop91 , Congratulations and a big 'Croeso' to Iestyn Elis. 👶Flowers

Shkbop91 · 29/04/2024 16:31

😣I'm so ashamed! I didn't see the amount of love that this post gathered. So, so many good name suggestions. I was firmly for Taliesin, Osian or Ifan but the other half didn't like my choices!

Wanted to say that little man arrived a few days ago and we chose his name to be Iestyn Elis.

Think a few asked; I was not born in Wales but consider myself Welsh as have been here so long. Not fluent but can speak and understand. My DH is not 1st language but his father's family all are.

OP still hasn't come back. There's a strange amount of love for Idris on the thread. If OP says Rhys as Rees I don't think they work together.

DaNiYmaOHyd · 20/12/2023 10:21

@obladeeobladah , because it's not particularly current. It's a name that was popular about 60 years ago.
Quite a few of the names suggested sound middle-aged.

@user1492757084 , not sure why you suggested Cedric and Clive. OP wanted a Welsh name for a baby.

obladeeobladah · 20/12/2023 09:54

I came on here to say Bryn. But confused as to why only one pp has suggested it.

We have 3 Bryns in our very extended family. I love it. What is the reason no one has suggested it? I love it. Would have called DS it but it got taken before me for his generation.

Failing that I like Idris.

Baby Clive Shock

Dreamingofgreece · 20/12/2023 06:55

Lloyd

user1492757084 · 20/12/2023 06:17

Rhys and Lloyd
Rhys and Cedric
Rhys and Owen
Rhys and Clive

justasoul · 19/12/2023 21:42

@DaNiYmaOHyd my area is not very Welsh speaking, I suppose that explains the lack of Tudurs Grin

SillyBub · 19/12/2023 20:39

I have a Iestyn and a Rhys. Ieuan is the one that got away.

DaNiYmaOHyd · 19/12/2023 20:33

@peaceinourtime , isn't it a job title? Wink

devildeepbluesea · 19/12/2023 15:26

DD would have been Taliesin, Tal for short had she been a boy. I love it, and whilst not exactly unusual in Wales it’s not hugely common either.

muddyford · 19/12/2023 15:26

Idris
Owain
Geraint
Bryn

peaceinourtime · 19/12/2023 15:22

Rhodri or Glyn, though not being in Wales I’m not sure if either is considered dated.
nb I know a 40~ year old Tutor, I never realised that it is a Welsh name

DaNiYmaOHyd · 19/12/2023 13:12

Thanks. It's nice but does sound like Ivor. Smile

BuffaloCauliflower · 19/12/2023 12:52

@DaNiYmaOHyd Eye-voh with a hard I. Like Ivy but with an O

DaNiYmaOHyd · 19/12/2023 12:49

@justasoul , I know a few Tudurs. Nice name but will likely be Tudur Budur.
@BuffaloCauliflower , do you say Eevo or Eyevo?
