What do you think of the girls name Alora?
It's a town in Spain and also links to Spanish word. Would you consider it to be a strong name that would age well?
Look forward to reading your views. The other name we have is Sofia. If you had to pick between Sofia and Alora which would you choose?

I know little girls called Aloura, Alora and Elora! I also have a little Aurora 👼so I do love Alora! I prefer her to Sofia!

No way, just sounds like Italian for ok. Not an association I would like! What's the Spanish word it links to? I'm not fluent but I don't recognise it. Also if the town is álora then spelling it alora will result in the pronunciation being wrong anyway. There is no way you could spell álora in English to get the pronunciation right.

Elora is better as it sounds like a proper name where as Alora doesn’t look right and looks made up

I don't think Alora is a strong name. I find it very soft and blends in with all the many similar names (Elora, Elena, Alana, Ariana, Aliana, Eliana, Aurora etc etc).

I am pronouncing it Al-OR-a though, which I gather from pps is incorrect.

Much prefer Sofia.

I prefer Laura to Alora, which sounds like a disney princess.

Sofia's quite nice I guess.

It's quite nice but definitely will be pronounced Al-OR-uh. If that's what you want. A PP suggestion of Elora is also nice.

To me it sounds like a made up name. E.g Laura, then someone just decided to put an A in front of it. Not to my taste but your call

To me it just means 'so' or even 'anyway' like in a 'whatever' kind of way.

I like both. Sofia is also a city. I think Alora will be less common if you want something unusual.

I know a little Alora and her name doesn't get changed at all.
Obvs not as common as Sofia but l prefer Sofia

I much much prefer Elora to Alora.

Out of Alora or Sofia, I would go for Sofia (although personally I prefer the Sophia spelling). But of Elora was an option I'd go for that.

Sofia of the two -

Alora either makes me think Allora! or L’amour - neither of which you really want

But as pp says Sofia is v popular

I just hear "so". But it depends what country you're in and what languages you speak
