Is Vivienne going to be faddy?

I thought of it as quite a classic name but have heard it screeched in the park and supermarket a few times lately. Is it going to be a 2024 Arlo?

I love it except when pronounced Vivi-yun, rather than Vivi-yen.

topnoddy · 17/12/2023 18:04

Just reminds me of The Young Ones , Ade Edmundson's character

hcarter8 · 17/12/2023 17:54

I don't think it's ever been popular enough to be faddy. A name is only faddy when it is at the top of the charts for like 10 years. It very pretty and sounds like it could fit a girl of any age

EmptyYoghurtPot · 17/12/2023 14:26

The Vivienne is my favourite drag queen so it’s always going to be remind me of that, sorry.

kurotora · 17/12/2023 13:57

One of my favourite names! It would have been a high contender for my DD in 2020 except I named our family cat Vivienne in 1996. We had her till 2016. ❤️

I hope it’s not a name that becomes faddy, it’s so beautiful.

Mangotango39 · 17/12/2023 13:53

I think it's that good mix of having a few around but not to many. I don't think it will fully take off and be super popular!

The trouble with Vivienne is that it tends to get shortened to 'Viv' in my experience, which sounds awful

Oh yes, I’ve always thought that about Florence/Flo and Veronica/Vera.

We chose Thomas because we didn’t mind Tom or Thom and I’m glad there wasn’t a Tommy phase.

Changethenamey · 17/12/2023 13:44

😂my DS (6) is Arlo. I hadn’t heard it anywhere before apart from the Good Dinosaur film! Since I had him I hear it EVERYWHERE particularly preschoolers. I did the same with my DDs (11) name too and hers was one I had picked out since I was a child! I wonder if we subconsciously hear these ‘rare’ names but don’t pick up on it until we use it or know someone with that name? I haven’t heard any Vivienne’s yet, it’s timeless and a lot better than some ‘unique’ names people have been using of late.

It was one of our family names. It was my auntie’s first name but she didn’t like it and preferred Maud, her middle name. In the 70s we thought this was bonkers as Maud was bad enough in terms of reminding us of the Victorian era and then she liked to be know as Maudie which seemed even worse 😂

I've got a Noah & Olivia, both top of popular name list and there's only 1 more Noah in my Son's school...go with a name you like

ohdamnitjanet · 17/12/2023 13:02

I know one adult Vivienne but she goes by Vivi

ChristmasSteps295 · 17/12/2023 12:56

I think it's a gorgeous name. If I had another daughter, that's the name I've wanted for a few years now. Not that I'll be having another daughter but it's so lovely that it's locked in just in case.

Rinkymcdinky · 17/12/2023 12:54

There’s a few where I live in East London. I think it does tie in with the Margot/Dinah/Frida style.

HighlandCowSaysBooNotMoo · 17/12/2023 12:50

Gorgeous, gorgeous name .

Popcorn640 · 17/12/2023 12:49

It instantly makes me think of the drag queen The Vivienne who's on telly all the time at the moment.

The only one I know in real life is in her 60s and goes by Viv.

ArsenicInTheAppleTart · 17/12/2023 12:47

It's of the Margot, Evelyn, Esme style of names, which is a popular group of names at the moment. I even know two families where they have girls called Vivienne and Margot. So it's certainly on the rise.

I don't think it's like Arlo though as that name is only in fashion for the first time whereas Vivienne has been in and out of fashion a few times at this point.

autienotnaughty · 17/12/2023 12:40

It's beautiful although I'm not keen on Viv. I also like Valarie although again not a fan of Val.

thatsnotmywean · 17/12/2023 12:33

its one of those names that depends on where you live and your class.

Very unlikely in the west of scotland!

fluffiphlox · 17/12/2023 12:24

I know two. One is in her 60s and the other her 70s.

MikeRafone · 17/12/2023 12:22

I’ve heard a couple of Vivienne and Veronica’s recently

Raemum123 · 17/12/2023 12:20

theyll just get called Viv when older I know an old man and woman both called Viv not for me

I had Vivien on my list 20 years ago! So obviously I don't see it as a fad, given that I still like it.

But that’s not Vivienne.

My SIL is mid 50's. She gets Viv. Horrible.
