Callie

Baby due next month eeeek!

My husband and I still have no idea what she’ll be called we literally have a list of about 10 possible names still.

We recently added Callie to that list. On googling it appears to be of green origin and means beautiful which I like - I’m quite big on name meanings.

Just wondered what others thought as it seems so late in the day to start adding new names to the list! But it’s really grown on me the last few days.

Other names we have:
Olivia
Emilia
Sienna
Lily
Lucy
Florence
Francesca
Rosie
Amber

Florence is a real contender but worried it’s too popular atm that all the girls will be called it. Also appreciate a lot of our other names are in the top 20! And part of me wants to avoid that but then again they are nice names!

My friend has a Callie, not short for anything. It's lovely.

shoopshoopdedoo · 16/12/2023 00:06

I like most of the names on your list, especially Rosie. I’m not so keen on Callie (also really dislike Hallie) - but I’m obviously in the minority! I think it’s nicer as a nickname.

QuackyDuckMcDucky · 15/12/2023 22:47

Love Callie. And Hallie.

Lily/Olivia/Florence/Sienna are just too common now. They’re everywhere.

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 15/12/2023 22:20

Love Callie.

Zoflorabore · 15/12/2023 00:57

I live in a tiny close and we have 2
neighbours called Callie ( and are the only ones I know! ) one of them Is mid thirties and the other is 6. I like it.

my favourite from your list is Lucy but I am biased as my dd (12) is Lucy 😊

coldcallerbaiter · 15/12/2023 00:54

Calista, Callista or Callisto (as in the moon).

Enko · 15/12/2023 00:52

By far the nicest on your list imo

Babla · 15/12/2023 00:49

Love Callie 🩷

Strokethefurrywall · 15/12/2023 00:47

Callie is the best out of all of them!!

DGHZ · 15/12/2023 00:20

BettyBallerina · 15/12/2023 00:01

I like Callie and Amber.

In summary I’d say these are my favourite two as well

DGHZ · 15/12/2023 00:18

I like Callie, I also really like Allie or Carrie.

Olivia -love but v popular
Emilia - probably prefer with an A
Sienna - never been keen on it
Lily - nice but a bit nothingy to me
Lucy - nice but reminds me too much of a kind of 90s name like Rebecca
Florence - a bit too airy fairy floaty for my liking
Francesca - not keen
Rosie - always loved Rosie
Amber - a very strong classic to me

Hate when people are harsh on here but it’s so hard to give your opinion if you just say you like them all sorry 🤣

mathanxiety · 15/12/2023 00:13

Meant to say I like Sienna too.

You could shorten Caroline Lily to Callie...

mathanxiety · 15/12/2023 00:12

Callie is too much of a nickname. It's also likely to be mistaken for Kelly.

I'd give her a more formal name and use Callie as a nickname.
Caroline
Calista
Clarissa

Your other names are very nice. Amber is sweet.

maryberryslayers · 15/12/2023 00:07

I like Callie but I think it would be nice to have a longer name too as I absolutely love Calista.

BettyBallerina · 15/12/2023 00:01

I like Callie and Amber.

theduchessofspork · 14/12/2023 23:40

I really like Callie but I think it’s very much a nickname, so I would call her Calista (which is the Greek name) or Caroline (which is what it’s usually short for the in UK). You also have Calliope, or Camilla works.

I also like Francesca - it’s quite popular at the moment though, if that bothers you

Of the rest of your list I like Olivia and Emilia - but they really are done to death. Sienna and Amber are bit hello mag/WaG, the rest are a bit twee

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 14/12/2023 23:18

Middle daughter was going to be Callie (Calista), but changed my mind at the last minute. Having a longer name as a 'proper' name, but with Callie as a shortening would be my preference, as Callie might feel a wee bit 'girlish' for some jobs and professions.

Blessedbethefruitz · 14/12/2023 23:15

Excellent name (I may be biased...) Lots of longer more formal versions too, Calliope, Calista, Caroline, etc.

hisen · 14/12/2023 23:12

I adore Callie. I think it's the best name you have on your list (bar Rosie which I think is gorgeous and a classic)
I think it's between those two.
Wondering if there's a nicer spelling of Callie though?

TheReturnoftheSmartArse · 14/12/2023 23:08

My sister is Caroline but has always been called Callie (even uses that professionally). Not sure why it was shortened to that, TBH, but I think Caroline is probably due a revival.

InterSteller · 14/12/2023 23:01

I like Callie

But I prefer Calla. Sounds less nickname- y than Callie and I love plant and flower names.

Genevie82 · 14/12/2023 22:56

Callie is lovely - really great girls name - instantly likeable and affectionate sounding x

Seamist22 · 14/12/2023 22:50

Callie is lovely - my only hesitation is it sounds like a gorgeous nn for a longer name to me (Caroline / Carolina maybe?) rather than a name in its own right - but that’s probably just because I haven’t heard it before.

The rest of your list is great too - my favourite is Lucy (my dd’s name!). Rosie, Lily and Amber are lovely too. Emilia is nice as long as you don’t mind people possibly confusing it with Amelia. Olivia is nice and I like the nn Liv / Livi, but there really are so many of them at the moment. Florence is quite nice. Not so keen on Sienna or Francesca.

RunningFromInsanity · 14/12/2023 22:46

I love Callie.
I also like it as a nickname for Calliope.

bettynutkins · 14/12/2023 22:43

Callie is my favourite on your list
