Names similar to Katherine?

I have always loved the name Katherine and had it as my number 1 name for our baby. However, today DH has informed me that Katherine is the name of one of his former partners and therefore is obviously not suitable. Any suggestions of similar names?

Katherine is lovely. I understand your reservations but it’s a pity not to use a longstanding favourite for that reason.

What about
Katerina
or doubling it up with another name like
Anne-Katherine?

Otherwise, I’d say that names like Caroline, Elisabeth, Susannah, Victoria, Justine or Miranda have a similar feel.

Just go with Katherine. It’s a lovely name. Does it really matter about an ex-girlfriend?

I agree that Eleanor has a similar vibe, also Alice, Julia, Christina, Caroline, Susannah or Abigail maybe.

I agree, Katherine is classic in a way that Samantha is not really.

This is really interesting as I have a 2 year old Katherine and most of these are names I'd not have considered 🤣 Samantha in particular is very different to me - Katherine is an old name found across several European royal families. Samantha is more 1980s.

Pemba · 11/12/2023 22:15

Does the name have to be written off though, how long was he with her for? Katherine is a great classic name.

I was thinking that if the ex used one short form eg Kathy or Kate, and say you wanted to use Kitty for short for your daughter, or indeed just call her Katherine all the time, then it might not seem so similar and remind your partner of his ex all the time.

Or what if you varied the spelling, Katharine (my favourite), Kathryn, Catherine, Catherine, Cathryn?
