Sister name for Camille

Girrrlmum · 08/12/2023 00:10

We are expecting a second baby girl next year and have narrowed our names down to two choices for a sister for our daughter, Camille.

Isabelle or Chloe.

Camille and Chloe is sweet but the only thing is our last name also ends with an “ee” sound. Is this an issue or not really?

Camille and Isabella

Camille & Isabelle both end "lle", I quite like that.

reelcat · 10/12/2023 15:12

Camille is gorgeous, I would definitely consider other names as those are boring by comparison. Matilde is nice and I don't think it matters you aren't French

TomatoSandwiches · 10/12/2023 11:34

Camille & Marcelline

Camille and Matilde - Perfection. Beautiful.

WinterParakeets · 10/12/2023 10:19

I don't think it matters that you aren't French. Lots of French names work perfectly in English. And you probably are a bit anyway if you have UK ancestry. Norman Conquest and all that. Grin

WinterParakeets · 10/12/2023 10:17

I'd go for another French-sounding name:

Camille and Claude
Camille and Delphine
Camille and Elodie
Camille and Elise/Eloise
Camille and Vivienne

I quite like Isabelle. Bit less keen on Chloe if your name ends in an ee sound.

RosaElize · 10/12/2023 10:13

I like Matilde but it will be heard as Matilda here I think.

Ottilie
Vivienne
Sofie

BigBoysDontCry · 10/12/2023 10:11

I like Matilde better but it will be Tilly before you can blink.

Since there is no limit on matching Frenchness, I think I'd go "foreign" but a different foreign.

Astrid
Maeve
Lorna
Stella

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I do agree on the points that Isabelle is quite common and doesn’t feel as special as Camille. We do like Chloe but I worry it may be a bit matchy.

My husband likes the name Matilde, however as we aren’t French I’m wondering if this could be seen as trying too hard? She will probably get called Matilda and may spend her life having to clarify people on the spelling.

Of those two, Isabelle, but if popularity is a consideration then be warned that it is ubiquitous.

Camille and Chloe are matchy to the point of tweeness.

jersydress · 09/12/2023 23:00

Estelle
Josephine
Marielle/a

It's Camille and Madeleine.

Chloes are ten a penny whereas Camille is quite unusual. How about Laetitia or Clara?

ClubTropDeVin · 09/12/2023 18:06

Out of the two, I prefer Chloe. Other suggestions that keep the French theme:

Elodie
Adeline
Amandine
Elise
Margot
Emmeline
Esme

wite · 09/12/2023 17:43

Chloe is dated and hasn't aged well imo.

Isabelle is nice but very plain next to Camille.

Newsenmum · 09/12/2023 17:30

Isabelle goes a lot better but I agree it’s a bit dull compared to Camille. What about other French names?

atthebottomofthehill · 09/12/2023 17:13

Isabelle is so ubiquitous, it's dull. Camille is such a lovely name in comparison. I guess Chloe is the better option, but what about something similarly lovely to Camille such as Apolline?

Seamist22 · 09/12/2023 17:10

I love Chloe :)

peaceinourtime · 09/12/2023 15:33

They’re both fine, my preference is Isobel

GreyTS · 09/12/2023 14:42

Camille and Charlotte
Camille & Zoë
