Peter?

DH and I struggling to agree on a baby name. DH likes Peter and it has family connections to both of us. We both like traditional names but I’m worried it’s not a ‘baby’ name (I know he won’t be a baby forever!), thoughts?

I have a Peter he's 3 years old and he gets called Pete a lot by us and he's adorable. Use it

TerfTalking · 07/12/2023 14:51

Love it, love it, love it.

it was my dads name and is my sons middle name and DD intends to call her son it if she has one.

I knew three Peters including dad and excluding DS, all decent, kind men.

solid, strong, traditional.

Great name. Due a comeback

sleepymama3 · 07/12/2023 14:42

Love it. I know several Peters and they're all decent sorts.

purpledahlias · 07/12/2023 14:41

Sorry but I think of 'to fart' when I see Peter... but most people probably won't!

bundleofbabyboy · 07/12/2023 14:16

My DS's friendship includes a Peter. the others are similar to James, David, Benjamin, Stephen and Thomas. I think it's lovely, but we did comment about how unusual it is that they all have older, classic names.

A good name.

AbacusAvocado · 07/12/2023 13:54

It’s a good strong name. As a baby he’ll prob be Petie, he’ll grow into a Pete and then a Peter, it works for every age. Also works whatever profession he ends up in, and whatever social group he’s mixing in.

JollyJellyCat · 07/12/2023 13:45

I've come across a few little Peters recently, it's a lovely name and never quite disappeared.

Nutsabouttopic · 07/12/2023 13:36

I love it. I always think that it's a strong name, Peter, John, George.

Zuve · 07/12/2023 13:21

Peter sounds good. Steve sounds good as well

MerryChristmasToYou · 07/12/2023 13:18

I know a little boy called Peter and it suits him. It's a refreshing change from all the Noah, Alfie, Arlo type names

Scruffington · 07/12/2023 13:17

I think it's fine. I'd guess that era of 'plain' 1940s names i.e Peter, Philip, Robert etc. will become fashionable again soon.

The French verb 'to fart is péter and I'm only telling you that because it's the niche kind of fact I'd like to know about a name I was giving a child.

Mirrormeback · 07/12/2023 13:15

It's due a comeback so why not

Pritipoll · 07/12/2023 13:14

Peter is a great name,he will probably be Pete to his friends and he will grow into it.

DustyLee123 · 07/12/2023 13:11

I think it’s lovely.
