Baby name conundrum!

Baby 3 was a boy and he would have always been Vinny but a close friend used it and I’d rather not use the name now, she would rather that too!

so we are down to Claude Quentin or Quentin Claude and the family name will be Bonfrer! French heritage but we are British.

what are your thoughts on Claude as the first name or Quentin as a first name? I like both but have doubts about both. Namely, is Quentin too posh? We are normal income people. My other children are Jasper and Connie.

I also like Raphael/Raphy but my husband thinks it’s too Spanish to use.

I have until tomorrow am to choose between Claude or Quentin!

any feedback welcomed! Or other names but probably will be veeto’d by my other half as he wants me to decide asap!

Quentin sounds very wet and limp to me. Like the cool sporty kid would never be called Quentin. The cool nerdy kid would never be called Quentin. The arty aloof kid would never be called Quentin. The kid who eats egg sandwiches and always has a runny nose would be called Quentin

clpsmum · 21/12/2023 16:14

Raphael is much much nicer

MumThree3 · 21/12/2023 15:57

Vincent or Quentin?

Really stuck between these two names. Avoided Vincent due to a friend using it but keep reverting to it so less afraid to use it now and wonder if I’ll regret using Quentin. Reluctances are that I like the nicknames less and wonder if it’s on the posher side.

Excellent choice!

Jasper, Connie and Quentin sounds really nice together.

Congrats on his birth Smile

MumThree3 · 11/12/2023 20:08

Going to go with Quentin. I considered Felix too. Can’t register him until a week today as there aren’t any apps but pretty sure we will stick on Quentin.

What did you choose, op?

Hecksonaplane · 09/12/2023 16:24

I know a Clement, goes by Clem suits it and works better than you think

MumThree3 · 08/12/2023 10:57

That’s my son Jasper’s middle name. I do love it!

In that case, definitely Quentin. Unless I could interest you in a Lucian?

@MumThree3 here's the ONS data on baby names, the latest one being 2021. The list of all names given is under number 6

Of the two Quentin. I've always thought of Claude as a female name though I know its a male name.

MumThree3 · 07/12/2023 19:10

Thanks! Where do you find that info?

Interestingly, there were more babies called Quentin (23) last year than Clement (17).

Scruffington · 07/12/2023 17:18

Go with Clement.

Jasper, Connie, and Clem sound good together.

purpledahlias · 07/12/2023 17:14

I vote Quentin in that case. It's a great name and goes well with Jasper and Connie!

Moveoverdarlin · 07/12/2023 17:10

Ahh I love Claude for a boy.

MumThree3 · 07/12/2023 17:07

I couldn’t do it this am. Felt so undecided 😬I will go for Quentin or Clement I think. The Clohd pronunciation of Claude in UK and the typically French Claude stereotype has made me rethink the name

What did you go for OP?

Maplesugarpie · 07/12/2023 14:50

Quentin is a lovely name and Quentin Claude flows nicely with your surname.

We know a young Quentin and there's nothing remotely 'posh' about him... Quentin Blake, Quentin Tarantino come to mind. It's a great name and no different to other 'old man' names like Albert, Wilfred or Stanley.

SoapySnowflake · 07/12/2023 13:13

I too like Raphael, especially with your other children!

Quentin unfortunately sounds too much like you are ‘trying’ to be posh.

Claude is ok but Raffy wins for me!!

piscofrisco · 07/12/2023 13:04

I like both but Quentin if I had to choose one (as the first name)

Alltheusernamesaretakennow · 07/12/2023 12:55

Claude makes me think of Claude Littner, on The Apprentice... agree that Raphael is nicer.

Lilacmarigold · 07/12/2023 12:34

*Clement sounds a bit unfinished...like Clementine but missing the lovely flourish at the end.

Quentin is ace!*

I agree - Quentin is a great name, classic and well known but not overused. I really like it.

purpledahlias · 07/12/2023 12:29

I much prefer Quentin over Claude or Clement. It goes best with your other children's' names!

Clem/Clemmie sounds quite feminine imo

wherethewildtbingsgo · 07/12/2023 11:32

MumThree3 · 07/12/2023 10:40

Thanks! Just throwing out Clement as another potential as I like the nicknames Clem and Clemmie.
Thoughts on Clement?

You can't use Clemmie as a nickname for Clement, it's a girls' name. Clem is ok I guess but Clement doesn't exactly roll off the tongue in an English accent.
