Hi, we have a boys name picked out but not a girls.

We loved the name Emmeline so much, and she has such a great namesake that we are struggling to feel too enthusiastic about any.

Josephine (after Butler) a possibility but concerned about both children having -een endings
Also open to Rosalind, but don't like Roz as a nickname
Husband doesn't like Millicent or Constance
Lydia doesn't work with surname
Elizabeth feels too popular, as does Charlotte and Matilda
Rosa, Anna, and Harriet don't feel like they 'go' with Emmeline
We liked Persephone but felt it was a bit too out there

Looking for suggestions! Helpful if they are a female pioneer, book protagonist etc!

I personally think using Christobel is too on the nose, it’s a huge legacy and I would feel they need their own pair of names

I think a Rosa name goes nicely, Rosalind etc

Calliope
Violetta
Viola

Ada? After Ada Lovelace?

PollyPeep · 06/12/2023 12:38

I LOVE Josephine with Emmeline! They go together nicely but they sound sufficiently different that you won't get them mixed up. Josie and Emi are very sweet nicknames and I love that they rhyme too ☺️

I love Josephine and I don't think the matchy endings would bother me.

I also love Anna and Rosa but since Emmeline is a longer name I'd go with Annabel or Rosalind for the full name and then shorten it if you want.

theduchessofspork · 06/12/2023 07:38

I think Harriet and Anna go fine. I like Rosalind - just use Rosa not Roz - Roz is quite old fashioned, I don’t really hear it now. Christabel would be a bit Pankhurst fan girl but nothing intrinsically wrong with that.

Maria after Marie Stopes?
Mary after Wollstonecraft, Shelly and Seacole - you could jazz it up to Marianne - actually Marianne is also quite nice with the French symbol of womanhood going on
Ada - Lovelace
Florence - nightingale
Octavia - hill
Jane - Austin
Nancy - Astor (you could have Anna nn Nancy as is traditional)
Aphra - Benn

Christobel or Christabel

Suffragette sister to Emmeline

We considered this but Christabel was Emmeline's daughter; is it too weird to have sisters named after a mother and daughter?
