Just that really. Middle name either way would be Joseph. Any particular preference and why?

Daniel Joseph
Dominic Joseph

Thanks,
R.

I prefer Dominic. Daniel is OK, though.

pippapipps · 15/01/2024 23:00

Daniel is a lovely name

Daisybuttercup12345 · 15/01/2024 22:58

Daniel.

iwishiwasonacruise · 12/12/2023 15:44

I have a cousin called Dominic. His nn was Nic as a child but seems to be Dom now 🤷🏻‍♀️

BlueberryVelvet · 11/12/2023 20:32

Dominic is so classy.

Daniel is beige.

purpledahlias · 11/12/2023 20:30

I prefer Dominic

DejaVoodoo · 11/12/2023 11:46

@Libertyy We’re a white Irish Catholic family and I think Dominic would be seen as quite a Roman Catholic name so not unusual per se, although that being said I don’t know any Dominics under 20.

My Dominic is under 20! Mind you We aren't Catholic or eastern European.

IsThePopeCatholic · 08/12/2023 11:33

Daniel. Dominic sounds too saintly.

gem71 · 08/12/2023 11:26

I think Dominic is really sweet, less common than Daniel and I love the nn Dom!

Both are lovely with Joseph though. ✨💛

bananabug · 08/12/2023 11:23

Dominic is a more interesting name. But both are nice.

Daniel

CornflakesOnTheSolesOfHerShoes · 08/12/2023 09:01

I love both - in fact funnily enough these were the two names I mentioned slightly wistfully to DH the other day that I liked but hadn’t used (he’s not so keen on either so they didn’t make the cut!). For those saying they know a million Dans - aren’t they all adults? I don’t know any under 40 but it doesn’t sound dated - beautiful name. And Daniel is my favourite Elton John song!

Dominic feels slightly fancier, and labels you as more obviously Catholic (certainly all the ones I know are) but has a great rhythm to it somehow, esp. with Joseph. Don’t think you can go wrong with either!

Imo it depends. if you’re a white English family then Daniel, if you’re Eastern European then Dominic

Lifeinlists · 07/12/2023 20:08

Daniel

@moonshinepoursthroughmywindow oh that’s very interesting! Didn’t know that.

I like both but I think I like Daniel better in combination with Joseph (which is one of my very favourite names).

all with meanings linked to fighting

Dominic is nothing to do with fighting. It means literally means "of the Lord" but has long been associated with Sunday ("dies domini" or The Lord's Day). The only names I can think of that actually mean anything to do with fighting are Mark and Martin, which are both derived from Mars, the Roman god of war. I can picture a tough fighty Mark (although they're not all like that), but Martin has always struck me as a surprisingly gentle sounding name, given the meaning.
