Hiiii,

I really love the name Lilo... but how would you pronounce it?

I really don't like the other possible spellings so I'm just wondering if you'd pronounce it like I would 😊

I pronounce it lee-low, not lie-low.

Lilo could be a nice nickname for Liselotte in my opinion, or for more common names like Elizabeth and Elise.

OP it reads like an inflatable airbed and sounds like the name of a lapdog or a stripper.

No it won’t be normal in 20 years time, because it’s not normal now, and no, she won’t thank you.

You are having a person not a doll or a pet.

Give her a normal name eg Liana, Lily, Lillian, Leah and call her Lilo as a baby nickname.

This.

Definitely "lie - low" like an inflatable people lie on in the pool.

KirstenBlest · 03/12/2023 15:48

People who haven't had a young child in the past 20-odd years will think it's like in Lilo Lil

peaceinourtime · 02/12/2023 23:09

Please don’t, you can’t stop the mispronunciations and jokes that may be made about it.

Lilo Lil was my first thought! (Showing my age!).

I'm glad I'm not the only one old enough to remember that!

Naming your daughter after an inflatable is absolutely ridiculous🙈

Orangeteatime · 02/12/2023 08:34

What about Lida?

Orangeteatime · 02/12/2023 08:33

To rhyme with Milo. It would be fine once you explained how to pronounce it but I'd imagine you'd have to explain lots.

user1492757084 · 02/12/2023 08:10

There is a French name Lilou - Lee-Lou - that you might like.
Lila is sweet

soosal · 02/12/2023 06:09

I would pronounce Lee lo like Lilo and stitch. It’s cute

shoopshoopdedoo · 01/12/2023 23:45

Lie-low. Like a lilo that you float around a pool on.

KirstenBlest · 01/12/2023 20:27

Lilo Lil.

I want my daughter to have a name that is unique.
It's already been used so t's not unique. Lily, Lola, Lila, Layla and Milo are very popular. Also it looks like a typo of Llio, which is an underused Welsh name.

Riverlee · 01/12/2023 19:53

i pronounce it like an inflatable lilo air bed as well.

leahellie · 01/12/2023 19:43

Sleepsleepsleep123 · 01/12/2023 19:40

Lie lo. As in a cheap inflatable. I would absolutely hate to be called that.

Good job your name isn't that then! 😊

Your daughter will not be a baby/little girl forever. Most of her life will be spent as an adult, do you really think the name Lilo would serve her well as a grown woman? Nevermind constantly having to correct people on how it's pronounced.

Fortunately, we're not going to be in 2023 forever and names do change. When she's a grown woman it'll be the 2040's, pretty sure they'll be more unusual names in 20 years. I want my daughter to have a name that is unique.

I don't understand why you feel the need to basically tell me to not call my daughter that name because you don't like it. I asked how you'd pronounce it.. it's just rude and unnecessary.

Pronounced like the thing you lie on in the pool.

GoodVibesHere · 01/12/2023 19:38

I'd pronounce it Lie-low.

I think Leelo would be the only way you'll get people to pronounce it the way you're after. But I've never come across it as a name.

I knew someone called Layla and I know a young Lola.

Yep, Lilo Lil for me, too! Really not a good name.

Lee-low is what comes to mind first, because I love Lilo and Stitch!

I think it's cute, at least she won't be the 75th Evey or Ava or Wren in her year.

This is exactly what I mean!! It's unique and I love it 🫶🏽
