Two weeks to go and we're still not sure

HappyPie82 · 29/11/2023 16:54

We have just over 2 weeks until due date of our baby girl and we're still not sure on a name.
In the running
Isadora - Isa/Issy or Dora
Phillipa - Pippa
Juliette -Jules or Lettie
Isabella - Isa/Issy
Aurelia - Rory

Middle name will most likely be Evelyn but also open to other options.

I like but partner was a bit meh about because they're getting very common
Mabel
Matilda
Florence
Beatrice
Eleanora

Which would you pick or what would be your wildcard to throw in the ring?

Juliet Evelyn

Kate would be my add-on!

soosal · 02/12/2023 05:42

Juliet with Lettie as a nickname is the cutest ever.

Violet
Scarlett

also options for Lettie.

Isadora is cute and uncommon

I agree with Rory being a reach for Aurelia, Aurora is cute though.

Honestly naming babies is hard. We didn’t give a whole lot of thought to it, we knew we had both liked a boys name for years, found out we were having a boy, we liked the meaning and stuck with that one. We now have another name for his future brother if we have an another boy and that one also popped up out of nowhere.

mathanxiety · 02/12/2023 04:22

Isabella is extremely popular.

I like Isadora, Philippa, and Aurelia from your list, and also Annabelle.

My favourite is probably Isadora.

hoobanoobie · 02/12/2023 03:32

Aurelia is beautiful. How did you come up with the nickname Rory?
Might be a pronunciation issue but Rory tends to be a boys name, I know several.
Remember you've got to take into account when the child is old enough to attend primary school and also secondary. Plus yknow the rest of her life. As for the rest of your list, there aren't any wild cards. Just boring regular names that have been used over and over.
I prefer a spark in a name. It's not about you, it's about what your child will use even as an adult on legal documents.
By all means use "Aurelia" but don’t cheapen it with a ridiculous nickname.

marshmallowfinder · 02/12/2023 03:08

Juliette is gorgeous! Not keen on the others, particularly Aurelia/god awful Rory!

CallieQ · 02/12/2023 01:09

How about giving her a name and using it rather than shortening to a silly nickname

Daisybuttercup12345 · 02/12/2023 00:11

Dora or Juliet.
Isobel
Elena
Charlotte

35andThriving · 30/11/2023 21:51

Pippa doesn't travel very well as a name. I know it would be a shortening rather than the full name, but I think it's still worth knowing before naming your daughter. Pippa means rude things in several European languages.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 30/11/2023 10:58

What about Candace? I know one, and she's never called Candy (which sounds ridiculous on a grown woman), she's known as Dace (which actually sounds really cool), and sometimes Dizzy (among friends!).

Doublebiscuit77 · 29/11/2023 22:26

I like Philippa (prefer this spelling).
Also Juliet (not a fan of adding extra letters as decoration unless you're changing the pronunciation?)
Isabella is lovely but is easily the most popular on your list if that's a concern.
Aurelia is pretty but doesn't make Rory.

Others could be:
Genevieve
Jemima
Caroline
Miriam
Francesca
Daphne
Penelope
Marianne
Dorothea

ShoesoftheWorld · 29/11/2023 20:55

Isadora and Philippa are nice. I wouldn't pre-plan shortenings, tbh.

My suggestions would be Mariella and Vivienne.

Seamist22 · 29/11/2023 20:48

I like most of your name ideas, but Philippa / Pippa is my favourite 🤩

Dancingonaslice · 29/11/2023 20:00

I like all your names except Isabella.

But I much prefer your nicknames eg Lettie is fabulous but Juliette less so.

Other ones to consider-
Ottilie
Odette
Nancy
Sylvie
Lucy/Lucille
Rosalie

Olika · 29/11/2023 19:59

Wait until she is here and then decide. Smile

Holidayhell22 · 29/11/2023 19:55

Isabella or Isadora for me.
I don’t like names beginning with the letter A. You have to be careful with your surname to make sure it doesn’t make something silly such as A Green. Also if she gets married and changes her name it can end up going that way. That’s just my thoughts.

GoodnightJude1 · 29/11/2023 19:55

I love Isabella….but that’s probably because I have one of my own! And she’s bloody wonderful (even if I do say so myself!)

I love Cassandra too but since seeing a meme on Instagram I chuckle to myself every time I hear it.

Cass? That’s pretty! Short for Cassandra?

No. Casserole. 😁

flowerygloves · 29/11/2023 19:53

Do you like Lucille? It can be Lucy quite naturally.

flowerygloves · 29/11/2023 19:52

What I would say is some of the shortenings yoy have chosen are not the natural shortening. Eg. Aurora- would be shortened to Rora more easily. And Lettie is a massive stretch and will seem contrived. I'd choose a full name that you love and let the shortening happen organically.

greyhairnomore · 29/11/2023 19:52

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 29/11/2023 18:34

Don't nicknames/abbreviations sort of come on organically? Do people really name their child and have the preferred abbreviation ready to slot in?

I've got five kids and only one (William) has his name abbreviated in any predictable way - the rest go by a mixture of weird abbreviations or pet/nick names that have nothing to do with their actual names.

Yes. There's a difference between nicknames and diminutives.
I don't understand why people wouldn't just call their child the name they gave it.

Orangeteatime · 29/11/2023 19:51

Love Isadora
Leonora?

MerryChristmasToYou · 29/11/2023 19:50

Isadora - don't like. Lots of Izzy names
Phillipa - Philippa
Juliette -Jules or Lettie - Juliet is much nicer
Isabella - probably far more popular than Matilda
Aurelia - how do you get Rory from Aurelia?

Evelyn - dislike

Mabel - frumpy
Matilda - ok, a bit overused
Florence - like
Beatrice - like
Eleanora - is it popular? I don't like it

The names in the first set of names all seem a bit long
Look at the ONS page or Darkgreener for name popularity

googledidnthelp · 29/11/2023 19:48

From the names you've got in love Juliette.

My suggestions are based on you liking NNs
Meredith / Meri
Arianna / Ari
Francesca/ Frankie

eleah · 29/11/2023 19:40

Juliette and Isabella are my favourite from your list. All beautiful names though.

HappyPie82 · 29/11/2023 19:40

Mumofgirls2017 · 29/11/2023 18:22

Love isadora, Juliette, Aurelia all your options really.

if you want any more ideas…

seraphina
helena
cecilia
eloise
dorothea
cassandra
henrietta
beatrix
rosalie
theodora
tabitha
tallulah
josephine
annabelle
emmeline
vivienne

I really like Cassandra so might add that to the list.

i love Helena but my mum is already Helen so thought it was a bit close to that.

my partner suggested Annabelle the other day so he’s keen for that one to be on the list.

if only we could go all royal family and give her ten names and she can choose the one she likes best 😂

HappyPie82 · 29/11/2023 19:37

Thank you for all your suggestions .
Nicknames were just sort of things we were playing about with, I fully expect them to evolve organically, my own nickname has nothing to do with my actually name 😂

Phillipa was how a family friend spelt it when I was a child and didn’t realise that might be wrong!

I think we will keep the list and just see what she looks like….i think I’m also struggling with the idea she’ll actually be here soon after a difficult journey to even get to this point!
