Alternative to Rose.....

So on my previous post there was a lot of negative feedback about Rose.
Reason for choosing Rose is I absolutely love everything Titanic, film and history. Rose seemed a natural choice.
There was also a wonderful nurse on their called Violet Constance Jessop.
I was thinking of Delilah as first name but also really love Sofia.
Please help me to find a name that reflects my love of the Titanic! Rose? Violet? Or something else?

Love Violet.

If you love Rose call her Rose. And don’t care what anyone else thinks ……. Especially strangers on the internet.

This!

Mumsnet can be pretty random, I’ve seen threads on here with lots if people recommending Rose. It’s a lovely name. If that’s the one you want, you’ll regret itnif you let internet randoms bully you out of it.

Jewelspun · 29/11/2023 08:30

Rose is a beautiful name.

daisypond · 29/11/2023 08:27

The jewel in the film, the Heart of the Ocean, is made up, but it was based on a real piece of jewellery, the Hope Diamond. You could use Hope as a name.

peaceinourtime · 29/11/2023 08:18

Delilah is a lovely name.

daisypond · 29/11/2023 08:16

There’s nothing wrong with Rose. It’s a lovely classic name and quite unusual as a first name. If you did want something else, you could go for one of the other Rose names: Rosanna, Rosalie, Roseanne, Rosa, Rosemary, Rosalind etc.

I love Rose. I would use it.

Inspired from the Titanic and a list of the common actual passenger names .. (Rose I'm not sure was real.)
Titania - ship
Atlanta - ocean
April - 14th and 15th April
Some passengers ..
Rhoda
Sallie
Vera
Victorine
Sigrid
Rosalie
Bertha
Elin
Georgette
Lulu
Margaretta
Nella
Oceana - ocean
Bianca - white

I know someone who named both of their children after Titanic survivors. First and middle name of someone who survived and was listed in a newspaper or something. They were born before the film came out.

I think Rose as a first name is underrated. Go for it.

octoberfarm · 29/11/2023 03:40

I love Rose, and the longer Rosalie. I also think Constance (nn Connie) is very pretty. But honestly if you love Rose, go for it! It's timeless, classic and pretty. Congratulations! Flowers

I went with Rose and haven't regretted it.

Honestly, it's a classic name, don't let people talk you out of the name you love.

If people were trying to talk you out of calling your child Hades or Destinee-Mae then I'd say you should maybe listen, but that's not the case here.

😂😂😂

Theoldwoman · 28/11/2023 21:29

I love Rose. Go with your heart ❤️

Eybyegum · 28/11/2023 20:59

Rose is beautiful and classic. Variations could be Rosa, Rosie, Rosanne or Rosanna.

DejaVoodoo · 28/11/2023 18:47

Just use Rose! What could be lovelier than a Rose?

I have a Rose.

KellyanneConway · 28/11/2023 14:12

I can’t understand negativity around Rose - it’s a beautiful, classic name. Not too common, not too unusual, easy to spell, I can’t find a single bad thing to say about Rose as a name!

ChanelNo19EDT · 28/11/2023 14:04

Do you mean versions of rose or short one syllable nam3s.
I like Rosie and Rosemary more the just rose.

If you like short classic names, I love Ruth, Beth, Jane.
Not one syllable but I love the simplicity of Ellen, Mary, Anna.

Taybz · 28/11/2023 14:04

If you love Rose then you should use it! Would Rose be the 1st name or middle name? I think Rose is classy and beautiful personally - I'm biased though as I've just named my new ds Megan Rose :) Sofia, Violet and Delilah are all lovely names that would go wonderfully with Rose if you choose it as a middle name or part of the first name! You've got great taste in names!

uncomfortablydumb53 · 28/11/2023 13:40

Go with Rose.
I think it's a timeless classic name and you love it

ShutUpRomeoYouAreSoWeird · 28/11/2023 13:32

@KirstenBlest

Seriously ...

SneezyEvie · 28/11/2023 11:56

Some really lovely suggestions on here.

How about Cora?

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 28/11/2023 11:06

Not double barrelled. Rose is her middle name but she does have quite a few friends with rose as a middle name.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 28/11/2023 11:05

Bit outing but my DD 10 is called Sofia Rose. Rose after my nan. She loves her name but quite often says mum why didn't you just call me Rose and I have to say it would've been lovely. She has Polish roots though so we picked Sofia as a nod to that (thought it was too much to call her Zofia)

KirstenBlest · 28/11/2023 10:58

@ShutUpRomeoYouAreSoWeird
Most of those don't flow, hyphenated names are naff, Viola-Rose is two different flowers

Rhosyn/Roswen (Welsh) - neither are welsh names AFAIK. Rhosyn is the Welsh word for rose. Roswen looks made up, Rhoswen would make more sense but sounds like a location.

HappySammy · 28/11/2023 09:23

I love the name Rose. I have an aunt in her 50s called Rose but I've never met another one before.

HoHoHoliday · 27/11/2023 23:26

From the real event you could use,
Titania for the ship
Atlanta for the ocean
April for the date
Carpathia for the ship that came to rescue.
Margaret and Lucy, probably the two most notable female passengers.

From the film,
Rose
Molly
Ruth

If you like the name Rose then use it. Some people love it, some don't. So long as you love it that's all that matters.

FWIW, I get that people are fascinated by the Titanic. It's one thing naming after a film character that you like, but a bit macabre to name your baby after the moment 1500 people died.

Mirrormeback · 27/11/2023 23:07

Rose is a lovely gentle sounding name

I like it
