Jacqueline

Thoughts on Jacqueline for a baby girl?
It's my mum's name and I also think it sounds very pretty. Middle name would be rose.

I don't know any young girls called Jacqueline though so does it come across as old ladyish? Tried searching on Mumsnet for Jacqueline threads but they're all about the author Jacqueline Wilson which is unusual because it seems there's at least one thread for every other name. So does this mean no one is naming their daughter Jacqueline?

I saw a Jackelina on a reality show, I thought that was quite pretty.

Eybyegum · 24/11/2023 21:19

Jacqueline is ok but would be pronounced Jacklin here which isn’t nice.

scotstarstrikestwo · 24/11/2023 21:16

Just dont spell it Jackoleen as per someone I know of!

maddiemookins16mum · 24/11/2023 21:11

I think it’s lovely. Classy and 60s retro as opposed to some of the ‘uglier’ 70s female names.

MrsMechanic · 24/11/2023 21:09

It's my name, I go by Jax. Never use my full name. And the way people say it irks me... is it 'jackalyn' or 'jackaline' or 'jackaline' lol. I'm young too. Never find my name on anything either as a kid.

Chalkdowns · 24/11/2023 21:07

I do know a 9 year old Jacqueline. I think it’s a very pretty name.

it reminds me of Teddy Robinson books which are 1950s so that dates the name to then but I like it and I would use it. It’s elegant

Helena91 · 24/11/2023 21:03

I went to school with one my age, she'd be in her early 30s now so not too old.

CesareBorgia · 24/11/2023 20:55

Really like it. If you don't like NN Jackie, it can be spelt Jacqui.

SlightlygrumpyBettyswaitress · 24/11/2023 20:49

I'm from an era of Jacquis. I think it's a fine name personally.

MrsMarzetti · 24/11/2023 20:34

Name her after your Mum but call her Lena if that makes it easier.

theduchessofspork · 23/11/2023 22:02

I like it but the problem is Jackie, which isn’t nice at all, so I wouldn’t

How about Genevieve?

Yes, I agree with this.

I don't think Jackie is a very feminine name.

DiamandaTheGreat · 24/11/2023 20:23

I quite like it! Although it always reminds me of Meryl Street saying Jzacleeeeen in The Devil Wears Prada 😁

Professionalmess · 24/11/2023 20:18

As someone with an alternative spelling of Jacqueline, I beg that you use the traditional spelling. I've spent my life having to correct people and I dread doing it for the rest of my life too.

therealcookiemonster · 24/11/2023 20:14

I think its lovely

bluebicyclebell · 24/11/2023 20:13

The full version is lovely, especially written down or spoken in a French accent. Not keen on Jac/Jackie etc. Lina might be an alternative shortening?

MrsMarzetti · 24/11/2023 19:58

Use the name and to hell with what is popular. Would you really want her to be one of many Olivia's or Molly Mae's in her School ?

RoseMarigoldViolet · 24/11/2023 19:38

I really like it. Certainly no old lady connotations for me.

DisforDarkChocolate · 24/11/2023 19:37

I have always loved this name.

Werewolfnotswearwolf · 24/11/2023 19:35

Lovely name and I surprisingly know a few younger Jacquelines - one a twin same age as me (35), two late 20s, and one late teen - one goes by Jaq, others by the full name.
I think it’s a really pretty, sophisticated name.

SwedishEdith · 24/11/2023 19:32

I love it as Jaqueline but not really any of the shortenings. To me, I was thinking it's definitely more glamorous than dumpy Barbara but Barbara Bach is pretty cool.

Seaside3 · 24/11/2023 19:28

Jacqueline is nice as a full name.pronounced properly. But I suspect you will get Jackie, and jack-lin, which (imo) are not as nice.

PoachedDregs · 24/11/2023 18:39

Where I live it is pronounced Jack-lin Jack-eh-lin and Jack-leen which would be my only concern!

My great aunt had this name and was Jackleen all her life. That's how she said it.

I have a name that has been mispronounced my whole life so perhaps a chip on my shoulder about this!

Lovely name though.

leighh88 · 24/11/2023 18:34

I hate the inevitable shortened version jackie by association, old scouse woman i used to work with was horrible, i dont know anyone younger then 50 with that name

catscatscurrantscurrants · 24/11/2023 18:31

I like it - a pretty, smart name. Jay as a shortening of it is lovely.
