Slightly piggy backing off another thread in this topic but just really curious about this.

Obviously we've all heard of some very unusual suggestions on this site and we can all think of a celeb that's opted for something very unique but in your day to day life what would you say is most unusual you've come across?

For me it'd probably be Maverick for a boy and Lavender-Lily for a girl.

OP posts:

Cherry Peel. Peel was her maiden name so he parents actually intended to call her that.

Also car mad family with son called Logan-Elan. (Should have been Lotus Elan but they thought Lotus was a bit too flowery and girly.) His brother was called Fraser which sounded fine until you found out it was spelt "Frazor".

Unusual names of people I've met which I really like:
Velvet
Cinderella
Sapphire
Serenity
Sorrel
November
Fuchsia
Leilani
Have only met one of each!

L-A
Pronounced "Ledasha"

That didn't happen, did it? It's an urban myth.

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 21/11/2023 21:06

Blimey - they named one of them after a serial killer in a horror film! And she's worried about being judged for having an untidy house...!

PonkyPonky · 21/11/2023 21:05

Posey-Blossom
Ocean
Odin
I also see soooo many bloody weird spellings of lovely names. It’s so odd to choose a lovely name then spell it so strangely, that child will spend their entire life spelling it out!

Chlorophyll

I know a Chlorophyll too. And, no word of a lie, she has a sister called Photosynthesis.

@Stillthewrongsideof40 what's wrong with Charlie? it's a very common nickname for Charlotte.

I don't think she said there was anything wrong with it? She obviously just doesn't know many.

DopeyS · 21/11/2023 21:03

I haven't come across many unusual names and find a lot that seem unusual are less so when you get used to them.
When I was at uni though we had a big cross university meeting and they did a register and there was a 'strawberry field forever'. She looked a little older than the other students and had pink hair so might have changed her name herself. I never saw her after that meeting though.

Michael, doesn’t sound too bad until
you hear that his surname was also Michael. The guy was called Michael Michael. I really wanted to ask if he had a middle name..

Berlinlover · 21/11/2023 21:03

RedRobyn2021 · 21/11/2023 21:02

@Pocketfullofdogtreats Solstice is actually quite cool! Maybe for a girl though? I have one but don’t want to say as I’d probably out myself if any mums from my DD’s class were on here and can’t be arsed to NC!

It did suit him. He was born on the midwinter solstice and he was a bit of a hippy with long blond hair. Sol is a good nn. His sister was called Wilhelmina - I never could figure that out!

Too many over the years

Girls
Clover
Spirit
Storm
Saint
Honey-boo
Princess
Angel
Parker
Laria
Oria
Rainbow

Boys
Hendrix
Korben
Fox
Aled
Brody
Jester
Brady

Aled and Brody are extremely normal. Some of the people on this thread are so narrow minded! Guessing they're the people who are still calling their kids dull names like John and Emma....yaaaaawn

BabyQuark · 21/11/2023 21:00

Loveday is one of my favourite names, but DH vetoed it unfortunately 😔
Colleague of mine named her daughter Blossom which is cute now while she's a toddler, but she's hardly going to be taken seriously as a leading attorney or something.
Once got chatted up in a park by a guy whose son was called Messiah. His logic was that "no-one's going to bully him if he's named after the literal Messiah" 😳

Cherry, Star and a girl called Charlie.

I know of a few girls named Charlie. Has never struck me as odd. Neither is Star nowadays. Or Cherry particularly.

bakewellbride · 21/11/2023 20:59

I remember another one now... Blade.

NoMumLeftBehindLiz · 21/11/2023 20:58
