Thoughts on Marianne?

Also wondered how you’d shorten it (I known nicknames and shortenings happen naturally over time but don’t want any nasty surprises!) and middle name ideas. Currently thinking Daisy or Genevieve.

Thanks!

Like it, by prefer Maryanne

DesertSnow · 27/11/2023 21:07

*DD's, obviously 🙃

Marianne is lovely. As others have said, Marianne Genevieve is a bit of a mouthful. I love Daisy - it's one of my Dad's middle names, but for me personally to go with Marianne I like the suggestion of Lucy. But if you love it then go for it!

theduchessofspork · 24/11/2023 21:17

Lovely name

I suppose nns would be anything you’d use for Mary or Anne so May, Molly, Polly, Nancy, Annie

Genevieve is overkill, and I don’t think Daisy goes, it’s too slight (and might come across as a bit Normal People superfan)

I think you need something quite light

Marianne Sylvie
Marianne Sophie
Marianne Lucy
Marianne Ida
Marianne Zara
Marianne Emma

Beautiful and timeless.

TwigTheWonderKid · 24/11/2023 15:51

It's a lovely name and deserves to be used in its entirety. No doubt you will end up with some crazy unrelated, family nickname anyway.

peaceinourtime · 24/11/2023 15:42

Marianne/Maryanne is however you spell it is a fab name.

Acheyknees · 24/11/2023 10:26

Fabulous name, really beautiful

Vittoriosa · 24/11/2023 10:24

Love it - reminds me of “Normal People”

classy and not too popular

Longwhiskers · 22/11/2023 06:10

I’ve got a Marianne. It’s never occurred to us to shorten it to Maz or something. We do use a nickname for her but it’s one which evolved since she was a baby, very personal and only really used by the family and close friends.

I love it. One of my best and most beautiful friends was Danish and called Marianne (pronounced Marianna). Please don't think about nick names.

PearlClutzsche · 21/11/2023 20:00

Beautiful, classy name.
As per a PP, the Leonard Cohen and Jane Austen connections make it even better.

Jemimapuddleduk · 21/11/2023 19:43

Beautiful name.

HBGKC · 21/11/2023 19:31

I have a Marianne, I love it.

It doesn't really get shortened outside the family, and even within it's just toddlers who can only manage 'Mayam' (pronounced approx 'My-am').

I personally think Genevieve is too similar a kind of name to Marianne, and agree that a two or even one-syllable middle name would work best - Marianne Grace, for example.

Aozora13 · 21/11/2023 18:46

I LOVE it and was all set to call DD3 Marianne until DH changed his mind at the last minute.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 21/11/2023 18:43

Love it. Let.a nickname evolve naturally.

unvillage · 21/11/2023 18:42

My favourite name. Marnie or Anna/Annie for nicknames.

PureHoney · 21/11/2023 18:36

Really beautiful

ChristmasShopping23 · 21/11/2023 18:34

One of my favourite names!

MarleyandMarleyWoo · 21/11/2023 18:34

I absolutely love the name marianne but the only one I know is called Maz by literally everyone.. somewhat offputting as I don’t love that nn.

Wahwoo · 21/11/2023 18:32

I really like it! Not dated at all - o don’t know any of any age, so for me it just has literary connotations.

I like Marianne Daisy. I agree with PP that Marianne Genevieve is too long.

MaloneMeadow · 21/11/2023 18:17

Personally I’d class it in the Suzanne, Tracy, Caroline etc category. It’s dated and very much had its day. Genevieve is gorgeous though

RuthW · 21/11/2023 16:42

Love it

SkaneTos · 21/11/2023 11:55

Marianne is a lovely name!

I know 4 women with the name Marianne, and no one of those shorten it. They are all called Marianne.
