What do you think of the name Vivienne? Any negative associations I should know about?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

The Pretty Woman character was Vivian. A boy's name in the UK.

theduchessofspork · 18/11/2023 15:06

I think you are much more likely to get Vee Vivi or Vita as a nn these days, so I wouldn’t worry too much about Viv (which I don’t mind anyway)

PuppyMonkey · 18/11/2023 15:06

Ah, you watched Pretty Woman last night too eh OP? Grin

theduchessofspork · 18/11/2023 15:05

I really like it

Apparently it’s getting popular but I haven’t met a little one

whatsthemattermrs · 18/11/2023 12:16

I have a 2 year old granddaughter Vivienne. It's a gorgeous name.

purplemunkey · 18/11/2023 12:16

I like it. I also like the nicknames V, Viv and Vivi.

The Young Ones and Aunt Viv from Fresh Prince spring to mind when I hear the name. Neither are bad associations for me.

saltnpepper2000 · 18/11/2023 12:13

Lovely

ThePoshUns · 18/11/2023 11:56

Beautiful name

KirstenBlest · 18/11/2023 09:36

Prefer Vivien. Is Vivienne Viv-yen or Vivvy N? Not keen on Viv.

toastofthetown · 18/11/2023 08:54

It’s a name I feel I should like, but I just can’t warm to. It feels dated to me (the only time it’s been in the top hundred in England and Wales is the 40s) and is inexorably linked with Viv, which is deeply unpleasant. I love Vivi - but Vita is a brighter, fresher way to get there.

tokesqueen · 18/11/2023 08:52

My SIL gets Viv. Horrible.

ChickenBhunaandChips · 18/11/2023 08:45

Not a fan at all. But we had an Aunty Viv in the family so to me it’s an old name.

DustyLee123 · 18/11/2023 07:34

I also prefer Vivien.

Zonder · 18/11/2023 07:32

After the Young Ones the next person I think of is Viv Nicholson and "Spend, spend, spend".

Not a positive name for me.

EffinMagicFairy · 18/11/2023 07:28

I love Vivienne as a full name, but not shortened to Viv, I would definitely consider it if I were to have another daughter but would need to work on a short version to avoid being Viv.

NewDogOwner · 18/11/2023 07:24

Unless you can make Vivi stick as a nickname.

NewDogOwner · 18/11/2023 07:24

The Young Ones!! The name is beautiful but they will be called Viv at school which is not pretty.

Housewife2010 · 18/11/2023 06:27

I prefer the Vivien Leigh spelling too.

CareConundrum · 18/11/2023 06:23

I should like it - the full name looks pretty, as does Vivi. But Viv as a shortening seems so pedestrian and 70's. 'Aunty Viv' just conjures up an image of someone in a rain mac and headscarf. Then there's the Young ones (Vivian) of course.

So a mixed vote from me, sorry!

JanglingJack · 18/11/2023 05:28

Did you just watch Pretty Woman on BBC lol.

I like it.

katsusando · 18/11/2023 05:26

Such a beautiful name, although prefer it spelt Vivien (as in the actress)

needanotherhol · 18/11/2023 05:06

Yes it's lovely- DS is 2 weeks old but Vivienne was the name we would have used for a daughter. Please use it. Such a timeless classic and I love the nn Vivi.

MumofSpud · 18/11/2023 05:00

My imaginary DD2 is Vivienne - Vivi for short!
