Thoughts on Vivienne?

What do you think of the name Vivienne? Any negative associations I should know about?

My cousin Vivien has had untold problems with this spelling in France/French officialdom etc as they expect her to be male. She warned me to spell the name Vivienne if I wanted to use it.

I love my name but hate being called Vivi. I used Viv for a long time but it doesn’t really go with my one syllable surname (I never write them together and dislike it if people do). Going back to the full version now as I’m getting older.

I love it - I think it’s very elegant.

I also once knew a lovely Viviana, a very chic Italian woman, and have always loved that too!

I love Vivienne and also love Valentina but don’t love Viv or Val as nns so wouldn’t chose them.

Beautiful name. I do think of pretty woman but that's because my gran loved it and I must have seen it about 1000 times growing up!

You can never insist on a diminutive - at least not after the first five years. Don’t use it if you can’t live with Viv.

In terms of other associations, it's also the name of a sorceress from Arthurian legend who seduces and traps Merlin.

I've never seen that film actually! Didn't know it was the main character's name.

@peaceinourtime , that's because Vivian is a man's name. Vivien is fine unless you want the stress to be on the -enne.

The Vivvy-ENNE pronunciation is not great. The French pronunciation is fine.

I love the nickname Vivi. It must be spelt Vivienne, Vivian looks male and also ugly.

It’s gorgeous! I have a good friend with the same name and she is an absolute treasure so I’m biased 😉. She does get called “Viv” though sometimes which I think is quite unattractive sounding.
