Quite sure we’re settled on Heidi for DD due Jan

I want the middle name Grace, DH is a bit up and down with it but says he isn’t bothered about middle names in general - so it’ll probably fall down to me

opinions?

The first name that came into my head was Heidi Louise. I think it sounds lovely

If it isn’t a family name then I wouldn’t use Grace, as others have said it is really overused as a middle name. I do like Heidi Louise.

BigBoysDontCry · 16/11/2023 15:51

I think if you are not doing a family name then I'd go a bit more adventurous with a middle name. Something that has some meaning such as the place you met or related to a movie you love etc.

If you do want a virtue name then maybe one less used than Grace? Joy, Faith etc.

Having said that there is nothing wrong with Grace, it's just a bit unremarkable.

Heidi Grace sounds a bit like Hide in disgrace.

If your surname is a place name or noun, Heidi Indy

Heidi Dee

Heidi Leigh

DuchessOfSausage · 16/11/2023 15:20

Well, it could only have been one of three. Her birth name was Margaret Hilda Roberts. I think Hilda is cute.

Yes, minor derail, but it shows that they aren't that important.

WildCherryBlossom · 16/11/2023 15:08

Oh @DuchessOfSausage I know which British PM Alexander is, but Hilda? (Sorry, minor thread de-rail)

toastofthetown · 16/11/2023 15:06

The last four baby girls I know have had the middle name Grace.

DuchessOfSausage · 16/11/2023 14:53

@WildCherryBlossom , I know quite a few who have their middle name as their first name (always known as Jane but BC is Elizabeth Jane Surname)

If you look at British Prime Ministers, quite a few used their middle name. Not sure how many were called that by their parents though. Hilda was and Alexander wasn't.

You'd be hard pressed to know the middle names of most famous people.
Queen Camilla? Beyonce? Taylor Swift? Harry Redknapp? Claudia Winkleman? Gary Lineker? Elon Musk? Joe Biden?...

RoseRows · 16/11/2023 14:49

Grace is a lovely name and goes nicely with Heidi. Yes it’s a popular middle name but don’t let that bother you if you genuinely like it.

SneezyEvie · 16/11/2023 14:38

Heidi Ingrid
Heidi Astrid
Heidi Florence
Heidi Mathilde
Heidi Genevieve
Heidi Isabelle
Heidi Violet

To all those "what's the point of middle namers" out there, there are numerous reasons. One of them is just giving your child a choice later in life. If you really dislike your first name (or for sone reason it develops horrible associations - eg Myra) then it is much easier to switch to using your middle name rather than going through deed poll. You would be surprised how many people go by their middle name!

WildCherryBlossom · 16/11/2023 14:00

@ShoesoftheWorld I was thinking Louise too! It's a lovely name and after being insanely popular as a middle name throughout the 70s it's seldom used these days.

Heidi Louise is lovely.

marshmallowfinder · 16/11/2023 13:54

Don't ruin a fabulous name like Heidi with the utterly boring filler name Grace. Choose another beautiful name you both love!

ramron · 16/11/2023 13:52

What about Boo?

Sconehenge · 16/11/2023 13:51

I don’t really understand choosing middle names because you like the name or how it sounds with first name, I thought middle names are really a chance to honour a parent/grandparent/ancestor and keep a particular name in the family? What about either of your mum’s names or GP or GGP?

ShoesoftheWorld · 16/11/2023 13:47

What Louise was to our generation, Grace (along with Rose) is to this one. But partly because of its overuse back then, Louise is totally out of favour now, and it's a lovely name, so why not Heidi Louise?

DuchessOfSausage · 16/11/2023 13:45

Sorry but it’s really dull and overused. All girls have either Grace, Rose or May currently as middle names. And I really do mean all of them.
This. Most of my friends seem to be - Anne, - Jane or - Louise.
