I'm due a baby next month and considering the name Laura.
Any opinions?
My mum said it's too 80s!

I think it's beautiful. A true classic.
And I usually like very 'out there' names. But I think Laura is a lovely traditional name

I find Laura quite dated. Like Emma, Hannah, and Amy. I'd expect Laura to be the mum and not the baby. That doesn't mean it's unusable though. Lara or Flora feel fresher, and Lyra is very trendy at the moment.

I had Lorna on my shortlist and think that's lovely as well, if your mum talks you out of Laura!

It is a classic, I think it's a lovely soft, intelligent sort of a name. It was very popular in the 80s so they are likely to know a lot of namesakes their parents age, but I don't think this is a bad thing- they'll probably be the only one in their class at school which is great. I know a little girl with a similar 80s name revived and it feels quite fresh on a new generation full of Ella's and Olivia's.
