I'm due a baby next month and considering the name Laura.
Any opinions?
My mum said it's too 80s!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

My Laura was born in 2000, we don’t know many others her age - she seems to like it, we certainly do.

A name as classic and lovely as that can't be dated. And it won't date in the future either, whereas Lyra will.

Edited

Agree with this.

EducatingArti · 14/11/2023 03:45

I like it too. You don't have to follow the trends in names!

AliceMcK · 13/11/2023 23:59

Love it!

There is a Laura in my 9yo DDs class, I also have a cousin Laura, it’s a name I’ve always loved and think it’s a classic that ages well.

redroseflyer · 13/11/2023 23:58

It makes me start humming the Scissor Sisters song 😂

OliviaFlaversham · 13/11/2023 23:56

Dated and dull for me. Plus, anyone with even the slightest difficulty with pronouncing r will find it challenging.

chocolatenutcase · 13/11/2023 23:52

My DS had a Laura in his class at school. He's 17.

Ittastesvile · 13/11/2023 23:52

I love it, but I do like a lot of 80s names.

Moonface31 · 13/11/2023 23:51

It's my name. I was born in 1988. If it helps, I have always absolutely loved it ❤️ there were about 5 others in my year at school, but I haven't heard of a baby with my name recently. Go for it x

Angelina1972 · 13/11/2023 23:48

Love it! It’s so pretty and is a classic.

JaxiiTaxii · 13/11/2023 23:43

Weirdly I was thinking that Laura is fine a comeback this morning.

Yes, there are lots in their 40's but I reckon Sarah/Laura/Katie will be equivalent to all the current Ivy/Esme/Martha's in the near future.

When the Jenny's return we know we're firmly back to the 80's...

MrsW9 · 13/11/2023 23:30

I love it. Had it on my list, but my husband is less keen.

Gowlett · 13/11/2023 23:30

I think it’s a boring name.

SheilaFentiman · 13/11/2023 23:28

One of my favourite names.

Ketzele · 13/11/2023 23:26

Lovely name

RuthW · 13/11/2023 22:57

It was awful in the 70s and worse now. Please don't

atthebottomofthehill · 13/11/2023 22:05

I love it and would use it if I had another. It's due a comeback though so we may be swamped in them soon

idontlikealdi · 13/11/2023 22:00

I love Laura, I work with one who goes by Lau and that makes me itch.

theduchessofspork · 13/11/2023 20:23

Saying that… there are an awful lot of Lara/Leila/Lola/Lena/Lyra/Luna/Leah/Lilas about.. and they do all blur, which would put me off a bit.

LilyLemonade · 13/11/2023 20:22

It’s a lovely classic.

theduchessofspork · 13/11/2023 20:22

It’s a classic and quite unusual these days, so good choice. Laurie is also a sweet nn.

MaloneMeadow · 13/11/2023 20:19

So boring - I agree with your mum that it’s very dated back to the 80s. Coming from a Lauren who hates her all too common name!!

KirstenBlest · 13/11/2023 19:56

It's a classic and has more substance than Lara. I don't like Lyra.
The Lauras I know are really nice.

Don't discuss names with your mother or friends, or they'll drive you up the wall.

Alpacasmum · 13/11/2023 19:33

It is a very old and beautiful name going back to the ninth century.
From Laurel.
I am from a long line, going back over a hundred years.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 13/11/2023 19:14

Love it. Also Laure and Laurel.
