Heidi! Secondary school teacher for 17 years and not taught many but all have been a delight. Love the name!

salamithumbs · 13/11/2023 23:33

I like them all except Heidi which sounds a bit twee to me! I don't think Jane sounds dull at all but admittedly I've only ever met two (I'm in Ireland, don't think it was ever that popular here). If anything it makes me think of the little girl from Mary Poppins!
Anna is lovely and so is Lily, but maybe a bit popular if that bothers you. Also like Maria

Other ideas: Lucy, Juliet, Eva, Caroline, Madeleine, Rose, Hazel, Sarah, Tessa, Zoe

Anna and Jane

oneinamillieon · 12/11/2023 21:33

heidi.
anna and lily are quite overused and jane is a little dated

TheBrunetteBimbo · 11/11/2023 22:47

Any other ideas? :) I quite like Maria

Joni? Like Jane but cooler.

Snugglemonkey · 12/11/2023 20:46

Anna. Or Maria.

Heidi- twee
Jane- boring. Maybe June?
Lily- done to death

SpikyCoconut · 12/11/2023 20:41

Anna-lovely, classic, will work whether she wants to be a solicitor or a yoga teacher
Heidi-this is one of my favourite names in the world. I just love the sound of it, and the meaning. Well known but not too popular, nice nicknames (I know one who goes by 'Heids' which suits her. One of my friends gets called 'Tidy Heidi' as her house is immaculate (but she finds it funny).
Jane-just too plain for my tastes
Lily-meh, just one of those 'nothing' names IMO. A bit too 'frilly' (I know a butch lesbian called Lily and she uses a different name altogether) and delicate, doesn't make me think of a strong character.

Another vote for Anna. I also like Jane, Lily and Maria. I really dislike Heidi.

theduchessofspork · 12/11/2023 20:28

Maria is very nice too

Maybe also

I like

Jane - simple and really nice - due for a revival - you could be in the vanguard

Anna - lovely classic. But popular right now (combined with all the Annies) if that bothers you

I don’t like -
Heidi - half twee, half booby Munich beer festival barmaid

Lily - wet, overused and unfortunate if she turns out to be a bit stocky

Theoldwoman · 12/11/2023 13:36

Anna. Love classic, elegant names.

Growlybear83 · 12/11/2023 11:22

I like Anna the best. It was my childhood best friend's name. Heidi and Lily were the names of a friend's dogs, and just make me think of overweight dribbly little dogs 😆😆

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 12/11/2023 10:24

I like Jane how about Joan or Jean?

KirstenBlest · 12/11/2023 10:23

Jane - like it for its simplicity. Dislike Jayne with a passion.
Anna - like it but know many of them, prefer just Ann (no e)
Heidi - ok
Lily - overused

Mothership4two · 12/11/2023 05:06

Anna and Lily are pretty names.

Jane sounds dull (it's my middle name - never liked it)

Heidi and Maria are OK but not as pretty sounding.

BoleynMemories13 · 12/11/2023 04:58

Anna or Lily (depends where you live, I actually know more girls called Anna than Lily but it's a ery multi cultural area).

Jane is lovely as a middle name but dull and dated as a first name (plain Jane).

Heidi is far too twee for me - Hi de hi campers! I wouldn't want to be called Heidi.

Smallonesaremorejuicy · 12/11/2023 01:32

Any but Heidi

Jeannie88 · 12/11/2023 01:29

Anna and Jane

Sugarfree23 · 12/11/2023 01:25

Anna

Heidi is nice but people will ask if you have Alpine connections.

Jane - not quite ready for a come back- plain Jane, super brain.

Lily - lovely but lots of them and similar to the tons to Lily, Milly, Amily, type names

goldenrachita · 12/11/2023 01:19

Anna- absolutely beautiful and so classy. My favourite.

Heidi- pretty name and unusual enough to stand out

Lily- Apart from being overused in itself, thare now so many Lila/Lyra/Lilia/Lola type names. Lily also hit #1 around 18 years ago, so a Lily now will have a name that ages her by a decade or so. Ask any Sharon born in the late 70s rather than the boom of the 60s.
Also I find flowers are personal and would hate to be named after a flower I ended up not particularly loving as an adult.
Jane- surely due a revival. To me it's 60s model vibe. It's also quite posh.

MaloneMeadow · 11/11/2023 23:56

Anna - my favourite, very timeless and elegant

Heidi - marmite, not a huge fan. Gives me the image of a shy girl

Lily - overused

(Plain) Jane - so boring. Keep it in the 70s where it belongs!

AdaColeman · 11/11/2023 23:09

Heidi is my favourite, with Anna a close second.

CandyflossKid · 11/11/2023 23:00

Heidi

LilyLemonade · 11/11/2023 22:59

I love Jane!
Used to be plain but now it feels fresh and classic.
I also like Heidi.
Anna and Lily are nice but heavily used in recent years.
