Middle name for Penelope Richardson

We can't decide on a middle name for Penelope Richardson. I think keeping it short to balance out the two longer names would sound the best. I really like "Rae" or "Rose", but don't know whether it goes with our surname.

It really bugs me when people say this. My Nanna was called Rose and my MIL was called Jane. Those were their names and the ones we'd use as honorifics if we have a daughter. They're not fillers to us.

OP, middle slots are normally for family names. Are there any in your family history that you particularly like, or a family member you'd like to honour?

Rose would feel like a filler to your daughter though, given she didn’t know her granny

It’s as boring as being called Emma Louise or Sarah Louise in the 70s

theduchessofspork · 11/11/2023 15:17

Clare, Jane and Jean are also nice

I'd avoid Jane as Penelope Jane would turn into Penny Lane in the playground

It really wouldn’t

Penelope Mary Anne is nice
or just Penelope Anne

I like a family name as a middle name

Rose is fine but there are a billion girls with it as a middle name, along with May and Grace

Rae is a bit naff

I think Penny Lane is a sweet nickname but I think it unlikely her primary school peers will be Beatles aficionados.

I would not go with one beginning with R, bit of a mouthful with the surname,

I also like Jane and agree one syllable is good.

Lots of nice suggestions so far. Rose is a great name. However it really doesn't matter. Almost No one uses middle names apart from new parents so it actually doesn't matter how the name flows. I'd avoid anything that sounded odd or resulted in funny initials but other than that just choose the name you like the most.

Penelope is a great name too and your daughter will be able to shorten if she wants.

Mary-Anne to honour both family members?

Agree that Kate works well.
Penelope Jade would be cool.

It's awful. I think Dawn is ok. I don't know many.

HangTheJib · 10/11/2023 20:24

Aurora is so twee and frilly.

MerryChristmasToYou · 10/11/2023 20:17

There's nothing wrong with Dawn, but why use Dawn when you could use Aurora? Apparently very few struggle to say R, even though I know several.

FWIW, I'd use family middle names (so long as your great-granny isn't called Dawn).

What's so wrong with DawnConfused family name over here

As soon as I saw this I thought of Rose!
