To go with our trendy favourite or a more classic choice?

We just can’t decide and this is our final list, we don’t have much time left:

Chloe
Sophie
Rosalind
Phoebe
Emily
Ruby
Everly

Everly or Everlee is our favourite right now. It doesn’t fit my usual style, but I love the sound and Everlee looks more like Ever + Lee than surname to me.

Not sure if we should go with what our heart tells us to or a more classic name.

OP posts:

What about Rosalie... Rosa for short

SimplyTheGuest · 11/11/2023 20:06

Phoebe is lovely, I love the Everly brothers but I wouldn't want to be named after them lol ( & it will always be mistaken for the dated Beverley imo)

Trakand01 · 11/11/2023 18:48

Remember you’re not naming a baby, you’re naming a future adult. Pick the name that you like but make sure it’s going to stand up when she is an adult and needs to be taken seriously. Names give an impression of a person (whether right or wrong).

What about Everlene- it’s an Irish name that I would have named a daughter

Do you mean Aibhilin? Everlene is not an Irish name 🤷🏻‍♀️

FinMcCool · 11/11/2023 16:21

Phoebe ❤️

Takenobull · 11/11/2023 16:13

I loved Everly until someone said “oh so Beverly but without the B” 😩

PureAmazonian · 11/11/2023 15:45

Everly is lovely. Don't spell it Everlee though 😬

Fishwiife · 11/11/2023 15:30

boudiccathecat · 10/11/2023 10:26

How about Beverly it’s outside the top 100 but a classic.

No it is not a classic. It’s a lump of a dated name, like Lesley.

I like Everly will go the same way OP, so I would go for one of the other (really nice) names on your list.

Labradoodlie · 10/11/2023 21:02

Usually I’d say go with your favourite, but I agree with lots of PPs that Everley (any spelling) isn’t nice.

If it was the right name, you wouldn’t be hesitating over it.

ReginaldUmbridge · 10/11/2023 20:58

I say go with the name you really love. We visited America recently and met a lot of people with surnames as given names like Cooper, Kennedy etc. I truly have a soft spot for Americans. Despite all the teasing they get from us Europeans, they are awesome! I think the name Everly is perfect for an American girl, so why not on an English one? I'm not so keen on the spelling Everlee.

SM4713 · 10/11/2023 18:23

OP- where is your list of trendy names? Or are you saying Everly IS the trendy one??? 😕

Is that is your preferred name, go with it and have a more classic middle name.

Ontopofthesunset · 10/11/2023 18:19

Definitely not Everlee, but if you love the name, Everly. I don't really like it personally, as it's just the Everly Brothers to me and just a surname. And as a first name looks like an odd misspelling of Every.

And Evvy would be the natural shortening, not Evie, as you don't say Eeverly, but Evverly.

DoktorPeppa · 10/11/2023 18:06

Everlee looks like it should be an Aldi dupe brand of Dairylea, or maybe Elmlea

ElleCapitaine · 10/11/2023 17:59

Everlee is a bit hillbilly. Everly looks better but is still a bit American, like Stacey.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 10/11/2023 17:56

Everlee / Everly is awful.

Moveoverdarlin · 10/11/2023 17:56

I like Chloe and Sophie. Sorry I think Everlee is bloody awful.

WellWellSaidTheRockingChair · 10/11/2023 17:54

Rosalind or everly

LilyLemonade · 10/11/2023 17:27

Everly / -lee will date very strongly - so it really depends if this bothers you. I’d advise pairing it with one of the more classic names as a middle.

BoleynMemories13 · 10/11/2023 12:42

Whilst I prefer classic names, I always say go with your heart.

However, I would strongly advise Everly over Everlee. Everlee looks quite trashy in comparison. If you're torn between this name or classic, I'd at least go for a more classic looking rounded spelling (personally).

Could Evelyn (pronounced Eh-ver-lyn) be a compromise though? A more classic name with a very similar sound to Everly.

Ultimately though, if your heart says Everly I think you'll regret it if you don't use it.

Vexxa · 10/11/2023 11:57

I love Rosalind but DH wasn't keen. Beautiful name. But I think you should go with what your heart is telling you.

TheBirdintheCave · 10/11/2023 11:19

From your list I'd choose Rosalind.

I'm really not a fan of Everly as, however you spell it, it's still a surname.

ginasevern · 10/11/2023 11:09

Rosalind.

BankruptedByBirds · 10/11/2023 11:01

However you spell Everley she will spend the rest of her life correcting people who thought she said Emily and spelling it out over the phone. As a person with an unusual, often confused and misspelled name myself, I would advise everyone to just pick a well known 'normal' name.

Beamur · 10/11/2023 11:00

Everly is nice. No biggie to have to spell your name (mine is a name with 2 spellings, I have survived having to tell people which one it is). The other spellings Leigh/lee I don't like.
Of your trad names - I like Ruby, Emily and Sophie/Sophia - all classic and lovely names. Rosalind is nice especially if you shortened to Rosa (not Rosie) for a different vibe.
Phoebe and Chloe are a bit meh
